Thorin's speech to Thranduil - last line of it? Can't Post

I've seen this film multiple times now and I am still not catching all that - and it's a favorite scene for me. I think the last few lines are something like no land? or water? Right before Thranduil move is close.

Also, anyone have a translation of the Dwarvish Thorin is saying in his cell to Balin?

He had such a great look on his face when he tells Balin what he said [In reply to] Can't Post

As if he was thinking: That felt good, I've been waiting a long time to get that off my chest Evil.

ROFL!!!!! Thank you for link! [In reply to] Can't Post

That's awesome! - love the look on Thorin's face when he spits that dwarvish out, but didn't know it was so to the point.....no wonder Balin thinks that's "just wonderful".
I'll enjoy that scene even more now - ha ha - Thorin rocks. Thinks that's a first for Middle Earth........

I loved Balin's reaction [In reply to] Can't Post

His matter of fact "Well that's that, then."

Almost in the same way someone would say "Nice going. We're screwed." Laugh

ROFL!!!!

Me too! [In reply to] Can't Post

Balin absolutely cracks me up right there. I think that's my favourite Balin-moment so far out of both movies, and the exchange between him and Thorin there is one of my favourite bits of the movie. I love how he doesn't chastise Thorin at all -- he reminds me of a lovingly indulgent uncle. Even when Thorin's just condemned them to life in prison!

He's quite pleased with himself right there. You know he's had that insult bottled up inside him for a long long time!

I have a feeling [In reply to] Can't Post

Balin was likely a diplomatic aide back when Thror was king, so he likely knew Thranduil well enough to know that Thorin just royally (pardon the pun) screwed them over.....

Elves and dwarves are way too similar in that they are both stubborn as mules and have VERY long memories.....

So what good would he have done to argue with Thorin at that point....

I can see Thorin's mental state now:

Thorin (after delivering the insult): Ah, that felt GOOD!

One week later: He'll forget about the insult any day now....

Two weeks later: Crud, that elf has a really good memory....

Three weeks later: Maybe this wasn't such a great idea....

Four weeks later: Maybe I should apologize....nah

Five weeks later: Seriously, maybe I should....

Six weeks later: BILBO WHERE THE **** ARE YOU????!!!!

Race is meaningless. We all bleed red-no matter who or what we are. What matters is the heart. For each race has those with good hearts and those with bad hearts. You have a good heart. You do not deserve to die.

that Balin knew *Thorin* well enough to know Thorin had just "royally" screwed them, without even needing to ask!

Yup, long memories, both races. Does tend to get them both into a spot of bother now and then.
