The no spoilers allowed DOS 'reaction' poll Can't Post

Just Vote... Don't post anything other than your emotional reaction.

No Movie Details Please!

None!

I could have offered a 'hope to see it soon' option but if I let people vote on that, then they can't vote for their 'stars' when they do see it.

3/5 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hoping I will bump it up to 4/5 when I watch it for my second time today (was supposed to watch it yesterday again but didn't have the time for it.)

Since this is a spoiler-free thread, I'll it will be hard for me to explain why I feel that I might like it more the second time, so I'll just leave it at that. Smile

yeah... [In reply to] Can't Post

it would be hard to explain

but I thought people who can't see it now and aren't wanting to read anything that could spoil them, might appreciate a very simple and as spoiler-less as we can get approach to people's reactions.

And sometimes, I think it's nice to have the ability to anonymously 'vote' when one might not want to explain or elaborate. :-)

Better than AUJ, imo [In reply to] Can't Post

Although it's definitely not a film adaptation of The Hobbit. More of a "Loosely based on" sort of movie. So was AUJ in a way, but it's even more so for DOS, in my opinion.
However, it works as a movie and after all it's a movie I came for. No lenghty "please do go on already" sort of moments like AUJ had. So overall, I'm quite happy. 4/5

Somewhere in there. Maybe higher than 4 but not lower. Enjoying the trip I must say.

4 Stars [In reply to] Can't Post

Just saw it earlier today. Better than AUJ (which gets 3/5 from me) by a good bit. The good stuff was loads better this time around, and the bad stuff was pretty much the same. Still not up there with any of the LotR films (still too much ott cgi action bs for my taste), but closer. Has me really hopeful and excited for TaBA, which i just wasn't feeling before today.

Hated it [In reply to] Can't Post

It's decent as an action movie but not a good adaptation of The Hobbit. Seeing as that was the story I came to see, I was very disappointed.

I wanted a 3.5, [In reply to] Can't Post

but I also know there is something to be said about having to choose between the given options, so I went with 4/5.

I did enjoy the movie, and 3/5 seemed more like a "meh" reaction to me, so I bumped it up to 4/5

It is hard, however, to know on a first viewing if your excitement/anticipation about finally seeing the movie is bumping up your overall impression on making your reaction slightly worse.

Me too, i'm the minority of being disappointed [In reply to] Can't Post

and a bit befuddled on all the changes. I want explanations....

2.5/5 for me.

Having slept on it ... [In reply to] Can't Post

I also give the film 4/5. If we were voting on how close the adaptation is to the book, I'd add a minus sign on the front. Wink

I think the EE will easily push my score up.

that's it! [In reply to] Can't Post

It took me three viewings of LOTR: FOTR to get past my disappointments over what was changed and see the movie on its own terms. Of course I wanted slavish devotion to the book and was annoyed by the changes. But finally I decided that Tolkien tells the story from the point of view of the Hobbits, and Jackson tells it from the point of view of Men, who like to exaggerate a lot about things like how big the fish/warg/orc really was and skip over other parts that some of us were more interested in.

I loved it! [In reply to] Can't Post

I went in wanting to see a great movie. I saw a great movie. Therefore, 5/5.

I had only one instance where I got pulled out for a second and that had to do with the soundtrack so maybe if I could I'd give it a 4.75.

Not a fangirl reaction either. While I loved the LOTR movies, there were parts where I wanted to say enough (Battle of Pellinor Fields went on longer than I cared to see and there was no Ioreth! *hrumph*) and I really don't care for any of SPJ's other films. He's not infallible.

But, like a good bread, I felt the love and care the cast and crew put into this project from beginning to end. They asked me to come play and experience Middle Earth again and that is what I did.

And it was amazing!

4/5 [In reply to] Can't Post

I felt the pace was often rushed, and didn't get the usual sense of an epic journey of many leagues. I didn't think it was as moving or powerful as AUJ, but it didn't have as much silliness either.

I've been 3 times already... and every time it gets better!

There will always be little pieces of all 5 Middle-earth films that I wish were different, but I'm so happy with Jackson's storytelling. The books are the books. The films are the films. I am just enjoying the ride!

It was ok. Very OTT in parts but to be expected i guess. The CGI of Smaug was brilliant. Better than AUJ in parts, worse than LOTR trilogy for most.
