My RT prediction [In reply to] Can't Post

There are still a few negatives we know about, like Tom Long, Kyle Smith, and indiewire(?) to be added... so even though it's currently at 79%, at this point I'm going to predict a final score in the low/mid 70s.

I'm sure there will be a flood of reviews by Friday, but I think 30+ reviews is already a pretty good indication of where the movie will end up.

But you never know...

But average score (more important for me) just down to 7.2 I want to be about 7.4.

I'm more into metascore, myself [In reply to] Can't Post

RT basically forces either a thumbs up or a thumbs down out of every review with no middle ground. Metacritic simply averages the actual ratings. If every critic in the world gave a movie a 6/10, it would be 100% on RT but 60 on Metacritic, and the latter number would be a better representation of their reception.
But I certainly want both to be high to attract bigger audiences.

Another one that [In reply to] Can't Post

raised the percentage, but lowered the average rating from 7.3 to 7.2, because it was only 3 of 5 stars, for a rating of six.

Good point. [In reply to] Can't Post

I often forget about metacritic, but that's a much better grading system.

I think a lot of people probably misunderstand the RT score, and assume it's a qualitative number for how good the movie is (rather than how many people liked it overall).

The Metacritic score is currently at 72 [In reply to] Can't Post

which is much better than AUJ's final score of 58. The critics, while not in love with The Hobbit like many were for LOTR, are definitely liking DOS better than AUJ overall. It's nice to see. Smile

Cant agree more [In reply to] Can't Post

Movie's Getting 70 + from metacritic is really hard but DoS can do it by this time. However it needs about 25 - 30 Critic to settle down the solid number.

Aye, it is nice [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm somebody who loved AUJ, but my initial excitement was momentarily dampened by the critically mixed reception. My guess going into this past few days of reviews was that the metascore would end up around 75, and I'm sticking to that. So, I hope to see it rise slightly. But, even if it doesn't, I highly doubt it's going to end up in the yellow like AUJ did.

Well, sometimes at least. [In reply to] Can't Post

However, I think the article of the SZ makes some valid points.

The Zeit one though is pretty much overly self-righteous wannabe-intellectualism.

All the German film magazines have given it good reviews so far though. And Spiegel's review was almost a rave (which is arguably the most popular online portal of a newspaper/magazine besides bild.de).

But here another German positive review from Focus:

Yep, Metacritic is by far the better review aggregator but Rotten Tomatoes has the higher profile at the minute as far as movies are concerned Unsure

Heads up... [In reply to] Can't Post

the. BBC flagship Film 2013 will be reviewing it tonight. It will then be on BBC Iplayer and no doubt YouTube soon after. The only problem with this once very respected show is that they have the utterly vacuous Claudia Winkleman presenting who tends to talk over everybody else. The actual reviewer is a guy who is not famous at all and is usually fair if he gets a word in edge ways. Jonathan Ross used to do this show and he was excellent. Before that the legendary Barry Norman. If you've not seen any of this show since Ross's departure prepare to be disappointed.

My local newspaper the Liverpool Echo will review it Friday. I'll post the link when it's up.
