The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Soundtracks now available on iTunes! Can't Post

Desolation of Smaug standard edition soundtrackBeginning tomorrow (or in just under 30 minutes, for those of you on the
East Coast in the U.S.), you will be able to purchase Howard Shore's Original Score for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on CD, either in Regular or Special Edition form. But for those of you who just can't wait
to get your hands on the music, both albums are now available on iTunes (in the U.S., at least).

Click here for the Special Edition Edition, or here for the Regular Edition.

To purchase the physical CD versions, you can visit Amazon.com at the following links:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Special Edition)

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Regular Edition)

For those of you who lack patience, but are also collectors (like yours truly), you should know that Amazon.com will allow you to download a digital version of the album if you purchase the soundtrack from them. After you purchase, the download will be available on release day (which, again, for you East Coasters, will be less than 30 minutes from now).

Howard Shore's world of faerie [In reply to] Can't Post

I've heard the score (Warners put the score on its website three weeks ago; it was possible to download it), so I can recommend it whole-heartedly. I ordered the special edition CD months ago. I'm tempted to call it Howard Shore's best work, but that wouldn't be fair to the RotK soundtrack, which necessarily had a more martial feel. "The Desolation Of Smaug" evokes the world of faeirie, both beautiful and perilous. My favorite track is "On The Doorstep," which is the full "Moon Runes" theme we heard on the Unexpected Journey soundtrack.

People seem to be discounting [In reply to] Can't Post

People seem to be discounting the soundtrack which is strange to me because I really love it. At first not a lot grabbed me but now I really feel like it is some of his best work. The themes are maybe just subtler.

I didn't notice the Moon Runes connection.
