The Witch King Cake

This cake was so much fun to do, if I get another chance to make it again I will make a few changes to make the crown more exact, but my Husband was pleased and all the guess were impressed and disappointed because they thought it was the real thing and could get a chance to try it on and run around the neighborhood! My next attempt will be Sauron! Can't wait

I occasionally watch those cake decorating shows on the food network, and I'm always so impressed with what people can make out of sugar :) Great job!

That is amazing! Could you take some pictures from the side and back too!? I'd love to see more of this "portrait cake"! Very well done, you have a gift for cake-sculpting! -ML aka -Debbie/primmy

Great, thanks for posting the extra views. If I may ask, how do you achieve black icing? I don't think I've ever seen black icing! And the silver looks metallic, is it icing too? Is the whole thing edible, or just parts of it? Again, very well done. (And, if you don't want to give away your secrets, no hard feelings; very understandable!) -ML aka -Debbie/primmy

I used black paste food coloring from Wilton to get the black color of the cloak, also silver food color and brass luster dust and more black paste food coloring for the mask, the metallic food coloring are edilble and can be found at any cake decorating supply store. The mask is made out of gumpaste and attached with royal icing on a dummy head that was covered with fondant, I cut out the face part of the foam head about 3" in so when you look from the side of the cake it looks empty, and for texture I used royal icing, the cloak is fondant or sugar paste which I dyed black again withthe paste (lots of jars of black paste food coloring, my fingers are still black!). The head sits on a 2 10' cakes and 1 8" cake which I carved out to be the chest and shoulders. Everything is edible except the styrofoam head.

This was a strawberry cake with mocha buttercream, yummy! No one wanted to cut it , so finally we had to try to cut the head of to save for a souvenior before, one person wanted to see if we could detach the crown from the head to try on! I made a purse cake for my daughter and it sat there for 3 days until I finally convinced her to cut it! So silly!

That is so cool. Did the first person to cut it shove the knife through the front and say, "I am no man" ? :D

This is too cool I never thought I would have gotten this kind of response. Actually I thought I was going to get blasted for not getting the crown exactly like the original! Which I intend to attempt again for the decorated cake contest this years. http://www.wetanz.com/holics/

Have never seen something like this before - I am very impressed! Btw, I completely agree with your daughter. I'm another one of these silly people who think it's a shame to destroy such a piece of art

You deserve it, the cake is definitely an exceptional work of art!
