The first and last dialogue lines of DOS (SPOILER) Can't Post

They might be different in English, as I have re-translated them back.

First line: Give me another pint.

Last line: What have we done...

If this is true, I'd say opening in the Prancing Pony is even more likely, and the movie could end with the dwarves seeing Smaug going off to attack Lake Town.

But these seem almost too obvious, like a fan that was thinking about these scenes could have come up with these lines. We'll know soon enough though.Smile

its easy:
first scene: dwarves & gandalf in bree
last scene: dwarves enrage smaug, who is about to attack laketown

i can assure, that theHutt has the connections, that this could be real.
last year he predicted one scene back in october (and i didn't believed him back then ;) )

Translated from Russian [In reply to] Can't Post

Do you have the entire movie subtitles in Russian? Not asking for you to spoil anything, just wondering!

Either way, this pretty much confirms what we've been discussing lately, with the movie starting with Gandalf and Thorin, and ending with Smaug rushing down to Laketown... Sounds great!

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

... we cannot be online all the time.

TheHutts information are surely appreciated.

And similar spoilers have already been discussed. We already kind of know the first scene will probably be Bree. This seems to be another hint towards that.

The latter one doesn't answer the big question yet. Will the big beast die or not. The sentences can hint to both... The dwarves being shocked that they have awoken the beast which flies away to Laketown... Or already after the Dragon ist dead and the city destroyed.

Thrain's battle call at Azanulbizar, surely? The last...no doubt, Kili and Tauriel after they share their first smooch?

For example Balin looking towards Laketown, seeing huge fires?

They might not even know yet that the Dragon is dead... They will just say the city they came from burning.

Might be Balin/Bilbo who gets the last line [In reply to] Can't Post

That sounds like something Balin or Bilbo would say, feeling remorse for waking the dragon and enraging him. Can't see Thorin saying that, although maybe Thorin says the first line whilst waiting for Gandalf at the Pony.

I agree but have to add:

First scene: Only Thorin and Gandalf in Bree. The other Dwarves join them later. This is beginning of the Quest for Erebor. And I guess it won't be some drunk background guy in the Prancing Pony who'll say this line.

Last scene: Jep. Smaug is (as PJ calls it) "really pissed off". And after we know that the credit song is called "I see fire" I could imagine that the last image will be Smaug breathing fire at Laketown. It's not just Ed Sheeran who sees fire then ;-) And who says it? Thorin, Balin or Bilbo. But I go for Bilbo because he also said the last line in AUJ which was... basically a very hopeful one "I believe the worst is now behind us". It would be a nice and ironic comparison to this last line "what have we done?" in DOS.

Maybe could you add a little more spoiler warning? [In reply to] Can't Post

As in "pretty much confirmed spoilers" or something like that. I'm not completely pulling back from spoilers and I thought the spoiler warning would be for speculation, not the real first lines. Then again I've had a very tiring weekend and I might be the only one to misinterpret this! Smile

That still would feel absurd [In reply to] Can't Post

the audience would know the movie ends on a victory against the dragon that desolated the whole region. It wouldn't make any sens to end on a sad note because some characters don't know that the end isn't sad !

Not sad? [In reply to] Can't Post

We could see Bard or others run, swim or whatever through the devastated city. With many people dead. The city in ruins just as Bard predicted.

How is this not sad?

It is exactly what Bard was afraid of.

Thorin will probably overcome by the sickness so much at this point that he cannot see that he is at least partially to blame. But someone like Balin might see and feel their guilt.

Anyway, I am not saying this will happen. I am just saying that the last line is in any way a confirmation. Just another hint that can be interpreted both ways.

I am actually a bit afraid they might make a mistake with the movie split and leave DoS as a rather climax less bridge movie... Unsure But I yet remain faithful to SPJs filmmaking skills :)

Makes sense. And as does, now, the talk of flashbacks within flashbacks [In reply to] Can't Post

as one can easily enough imagine Azanulbizar coming up in the conversation of Gandalf and Thorin etc. in The Prancing Pony.

Yes on this I agree [In reply to] Can't Post

Phillips Boyens confirmed thrain giving gandalf the key and map would be in the prolouge of DOS, and now confirmed is the Bree meeting, so we know that most likely it will come up in the conversation and be a flashback in a flashback. Seems like DOS will be very flashback heavy, with the edition of the dale and girion flashback as well.

You know, you should think of the ending of Fellowhip of the Ring [In reply to] Can't Post

rather than the ending of The Two Towers. In Fellowship, the climax is a relatively minor fight narratively, I mean it is important but not climatic on the paper. And it leaves us with a sort of cliffhanger, with the hobbits taken to Isengard, Frodo and Sam leaving etc. But it's an emotional climax, and that's why it works. And I think DoS could be an exellent emotional climax as well, with Thorin realizing the mistake he has done, the sight of the desolation, the calm before the storm... Anyway, that's what I expect to see, and I think it could fit with the mood of "I see fire"

By the way, TTT is a happy ending, and yet almost the totality of the soldiers, elves or men, who fought the battle are dead. That's the way movies work, when it ends on a victory it's a happy ending, no matter what the cost was.
