Future Middle Earth Movies?

Future Middle Earth Movies? Can't Post

I know that the Tolkien Estate maintains rights to everything that is not Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit for movie making and has little desire to sell anymore rights.

In my opinion the story of Beren and Luthien would be the best story to make outside of the Hobbit and LOTR. I know I would love to see it, and if I remember correctly, the Lay of Luthien is a song which appears in the The Lord of the Rings (in decent detail) in the books, could this be an end around way to make a movie based on that song? Perhaps its just a pipe-dream, but those are the best kind.

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

The filmrights to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings do specify that they include the right to produce "derivative works". However, I don't think that the excerpt from the Lay of Luthien is quite enough to hang a film on. I do see some possibility of basing one or more films on the upbringing and early adventures of young Aragorn, culminating with his reunion with Arwen in Lothlorien. The details in the Appendices are slight, but they can be filled out with a generous measure of dramatic license.

I hope after the Hobbit film, it ends. [In reply to] Can't Post

I wouldn't want the rights of Middle Earth to end up in the wrong hands. Can you imagine a movie where the Predator and the James Cameron Aliens invade?

Well, eventually the estate will change hands and who knows [In reply to] Can't Post

if the new executor will consider The Childrren of Hurin for development. It would make a great tragedy full of love and loss with plenty of action on big and small scales.
