Smaug's Attack on Erebor Can't Post

Both the animated adaption and The live action both portrayed Smaug's attack in the daytime while the song makes it sound like it's at night also Thorin says he was outside at the time

"The pines were roaring on the hieght, The winds were moaning in the night"

"The mountain smoke beneath the moon"

so was it day or night pehaps the poem is talking abut the night after the attack?
