Why the Blu-Ray 3D edition is not High Definition? [In reply to] Can't Post

Isn't it in 1080p too?
Yes, with 3D you'll loose a bit of definition... but it's still definitely HD, I think.

... I bought the Wal-Mart DVD version and it did have the Director's Commentary.

UK DVD [In reply to] Can't Post

Suprised to not see it mentioned here yet but the UK DVD set is fine!
It's like the LOTR:EEs, NOT just an amaray case.

The fact there is no booklet it a minus, and you have to be careful if you try an remove the extra cover on the back as is seems to be superstrenght glue! But the box is actually MORE substantial than the LOTR ones - it's thick hard card cover in a printed design wrap compared to the standard thin card of the LOTR EE.

Looking good! [In reply to] Can't Post

However, the LOTR EE was only thin cardboard 1) in Europe and 2) for non-giftset editions.
This DVD set should look just fine alongside US/European Giftset editions.

Is the title goldfoil-plated?

Not exactly [In reply to] Can't Post

As you say the LotR:EE's had debossed gold foil titles.

On AUJ:EE, the titles are Gold, but its much more matte and not gold foil style. It is also slightly embossed opposed to being debossed.

Steelbook Extended Misleading information [In reply to] Can't Post

Bought the 3D/UV Steelbook extended edition of The Hobbit as it stated on the back cardboard insert that there was also a 2D edition included that was playable on a standard television and blu-ray player. (See photo) Not at all the case. Just two 3D discs and two extras discs. Found this out after I opened it. Not cool. If they are calling UV "playable on a standard tv/player", how can they assume that they will stream. One would assume that it would be in blu-Ray disc format. Does anyone know a way to contact the manufacturer?
