Nice find [In reply to] Can't Post

Certainly looks like Bilbo has received his mithril shirt from Thorin already in this shot. Unless of course, PJ decides to alter how he came about it . . . :)

Just for a little film continuity for when Gandalf in Moria mentions that Thorin gave Bilbo the mithril shirt, a great gift worth more than the Shire itself!

"When you think of the great Battle of Pelennor, do not forget the Battle of Dale. Think of what might have been. Dragon-fire and savage swords in Eriador! There might be no Queen in Gondor. We might now only hope to return from the victory here to ruin and ash. But that has been averted -- because I met Thorin Oakenshield one evening on the edge of spring not far from Bree. A chance-meeting, as we say in Middle-earth."

I doubt he'll alter the fact that it was Thorin's gift... [In reply to] Can't Post

...But he might make it come earlier in the storyline.

I had forgotten that scene entirely. That was from the EE IIRC, wasn't it? Good stuff. Based on that it would seem like Thorin gives it to him as soon as Erebor is free from the dragon.

I wonder if he gives it to him before or after we see Thorin pull that sword on Bilbo. . .

In his hands? I see some type of writing or engravings on it. I also noticed the thing on his back looks like a dwarvish weapon.... Why would he need that unless he didn't have sting

Hard to tell. Is there a zoomed out version of this pic somewhere?

Rings [In reply to] Can't Post

Wasn't that a set of mithril rings that was described as being worth more than all the Shire? To which Gimli replies "that was a kingly gift"?

Anybody have a link to the original picture? [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know if I've seen this shot before. Where's the rest of it?

"The Naugrim were ever, as they still remain, short and squat in stature; they were deep-breasted, strong in the arm, and stout in the leg, and their snouts were long. Indeed this strangeness they have that no Man nor Elf has ever seen a snoutless Dwarf - unless he were rhinoplasted in mockery, and would then be more like to die of shame than of many other hurts that to us would seem more deadly. For the Naugrim have snouts from the beginning of their lives, male and female alike..." (History of Middle Earth, volume 11, The War of the Truffles, p. 205)
