Laketown [In reply to] Can't Post

looks completely and utterly fantastic.

Like many, I've hated a lot of the design decisions but they've nailed this one.

I know I'll regret saying this but it's a really, really promising trailer.

Not strictly CGI, but rather skillful compositing [In reply to] Can't Post

The mountains, for example, are probably an actual New Zealand range, and many of the buildings of Laketown are probably either from the set they built in Wellington or possibly a model. Then again, CGI (especially environmental and landscape effects) has come a long way, so there might be more there that's completely rendered than I think.

"The Naugrim were ever, as they still remain, short and squat in stature; they were deep-breasted, strong in the arm, and stout in the leg, and their snouts were long. Indeed this strangeness they have that no Man nor Elf has ever seen a snoutless Dwarf - unless he were rhinoplasted in mockery, and would then be more like to die of shame than of many other hurts that to us would seem more deadly. For the Naugrim have snouts from the beginning of their lives, male and female alike..." (History of Middle Earth, volume 11, The War of the Truffles, p. 205)
