Gandalf the White Can't Post

I am very confused about something in The Hobbit. If you look very closely at Gandalf's staff, you can see his White staff hidden inside. This first became apparent to me when I saw a replica of the staff for sale, but then I watched the movie in HD and saw that it is definitely there.

I am so confused. Why would he have his White staff hidden within the Grey staff like that? It's completely pointless foreshadowing. Did anyone else notice this? Do you have any ideas as to why they would put this in?
