That does seem to be a theory [In reply to] Can't Post

I had never actually heard about that notion until I read Tolkien's Gedling. The chapter I mentioned does a little speculation along those lines. Apparently Jane Neave was a rather forceful personality, with a good sense of humor, very smart, well organized, etc. Tolkien seems to have had a close relationship with her. She was the one who suggested, as I recall, that he publish the volume of poems, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil.
