LotR Speculation over a decade ago Can't Post

With all the discussions whether Smaug's fall will be in DoS or TABA and other discussions of how and if scenes will be included and where in TH trilogy, I was wondering whether some veterans could tell newbies like me what the big discussions were during the lead-up to the Rings movies, especially TTT and RotK.

For example, was there debate whether Shelob would make it into TTT? Or whether the Grey Company will show up?

Thanks for sharing your memories :)

ďA dragon is no idle fancy. Whatever may be his origins, in fact or invention, the dragon in legend is a potent creation of menís imagination, richer in significance than his barrow is in gold.Ē J.R.R. Tolkien

Words of wisdom that should be remembered - both by critics, purists and anyone in between.
