Hey Everyone!
So I thought I would put the feelers out there and see what everyones ultimate, favourite scenes are from any of the three films? You know the one that you really love and gives you goosebumps?!
Mine is only a small scene in Return of the King and does not take up much of the film at all, but it gets me each time! I am talking about when Gandalf rides out from Gondor on to the Pelennor with Pippin in tow, shining the bright light from his staff to sheild off the Nazgul from the Faramir and the soldiers of Gondor, after Osgiliath is over run.
I know it is slightly different from the book (Pippin does not ride out but watches from the walls as i am sure you all know) but i do believe PJ got it so right! Of course there are so many scenes that have such an effect !
So what are your faves?

In Return of the King. It is my absolute favorite scene in all the movies. Although I really like the cave troll in the Fellowship as well!

The lighting of the Beacons - both the visuals and the music are stunning.
When Pippin sings "Home is Behind" - that pure voice over the scenes of Faramir riding out, goosebumps indeed.

I agree with Mikah and Kim: the Ride of the Rohirrim and the Beacons. I love them both on soundtrack too.
Another one for me is when Aragorn is facing the Dead: Fight for us, and I shall hold your Oaths fulfilled.

Off the top of my head, I know of a couple:
Legolas and the Múmakil. To me, it's one of the best examples of CGI/live action integration in a film, ever. It's so incredible, and gives me such a 'rush'.
Ride of the Rohirrim. Specifically, I get major goosebumps at the end of the 'death' cry, as the sun breaks through the clouds on the horizon. Tears. Then, after breaking through the Orc army's line, there is a very wide shot of the Rohirrim driving through Orc ranks. Minas Tirith is in the background. The music swells to a major high. At that very moment, I'm (mentally) in another place.
So many more, though. But those come to mind.

Three goosebump moments come to mind. First, when Boromir is hit with the first arrow, but refuses to die and keeps fighting. Second, when Boromir is hit with the second arrow, but refuses to die and keeps fighting. Anyone care to guess at number three?

And the first scene that pops into my mind when I think of these films is the little scene in ROTK between Theoden and Eowyn, where Theoden tells her she shall "live to see these days renewed." I don't even remember if this conversation is in the books, but I think that little scene so perfectly encapsulates what is wonderful and beautiful and sad about this story. Just all that wonderful stuff about hope, life and death, rebirth and renewal and bravery in the face of overwhelming odds. Gets me every time.

1. the scene where Frodo is in the shire right before Gandalf arrives - seems so peaceful and idyllic - then so happy when Frodo sees Gandalf - I feel like it needs explaining somehow because nothing crazy or dramatic happens but I find that scene haunting me in a good and peaceful sort of way
2. "Get off the road!"
3. Strider's intro at the Prancing Pony
4. Pippin's song in Denethor's halls
5. Bilbo flipping out in Rivendell

"What say you?" (especially in the Theatrical Version) makes me shudder.
"What do you want, Gandalf Greyhame? Let me guess - they of Orthanc or perhaps the key of Barad-dûr itself along with the crowns of the seven kings and the rods of the five wizards!?" Spine-chilling music and the way the camera flies over the tower where Saruman is standing - in fact, that whole scene just made me go 'wow!'

For me, there are a lot of scenes. It's hard to pick one. From the Ride of the Rohirrim, to Pelennor Fields, Gandalf riding out with Pippin and shining the light, the beacons being lit, the Balrog chasing the Fellowship, and when the Ring is finally destroyed.

Fun question
From FotR, the fellowship's exit from Moria without Gandalf. The expressions of grief combined with the haunting music gets me every time. And that close up of Frodo...so moving. Also at the end when Frodo rescues Sam from drowning. And Sam's " Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to. I don'tmean to." Always brings me to tears.
From TT, Elrond's speech to Arwen while showing her grieving over Aragorn's tomb is amazingly beautiful. Also Sam's "It's like in the great stories..." speech while intercutting the scenes from the other storylines.
From RotK, Frodo's look of despair and surrender while dangling over the lava and Sam pleading with him, "Don't let go. Don't you let go! Reach!" And then them clinging to each other "here at the end of all things. " But what may be my most goosebump inducing shot is Frodo being carried by the eagle. I think that scene is exquisite.

Beautifully done. In addition, someone mentioned Theoden's scenes with Eowyn, and I must concur. The one line that gives me the most goosebumps is when Eowyn asks him what other duties he would have her do if the battle goes ill, and he responds:
Duty? No... I would have you smile again, not grieve for those whose time has come. You shall live to see these days renewed. No more despair.

But one that might not get a lot of attention is from ROTK and is one of my favorite images from the trilogy.
It's only a 3-4 seconds shot. Gandalf is sitting on a bench in what appears to be some sort of an alley way in Minas Tirith. It's just before the armies of Mordor are about to lay siege to the city.
He is just sitting there, staring at the ground, among random carts, containers and baskets, thinking deeply about what is happening. To me, it's so deep and emotional. All of this crazy end-of-the-world stuff is going on, and he is just sitting there, wondering what is going to happen next.
It's very sad, and gives me goosebumps every time I see it!

Both scenes are very close together
1. Boromir. I love Sean Bean as an actor and think he was perfect as Boromir. His final scene where there arrows go into him gives me goosebumps every time.
2. When Sam runs into the river when Frodo is trying to row across and he ends up nearly drowning before being pulled out by Frodo.
