Bard and Smaug Can't Post

I drew this art piece about year ago and took me roughly two an half months to draw. Its my original concept of how the battle between Smaug and Bard would have been like. I wanted to design a different kind of dragon that nobody had seen before. I a originally was going to enter this piece into a competition, but ran out time. So I thought could share it with you TheOneRing.net.

Well done! [In reply to] Can't Post

Reminds me of the glimpse we've had in the prologue to An Unexpected Journey, with the spiked horns on the dragon's head.

Keep it up! Smile

Great artwork! [In reply to] Can't Post

I like how it's drawn with graphite (it is graphite isn't it?) It gives it a subtle, yet very imaginative look, like they're about to move as if in an animation.

It's always hard to re-imagine the dragon, there is this sort of classic iconic Dragon we're all used to seeing. Nicely done.

I particularly like the point of view. We tend to want to draw things from our ground level viewpoint.

Looks like you did it on a colored paper... it would be cool to see what you could do with white pencil for highlights too. I sometimes use MiTientes paper (in a middle tone), Prismacolor pencils in black, and white to create a "black and white" piece with more depth.

Nice stuff, keep drawing.

Go outside and play...

Good job! I love the soft tones of the drawing.

My progress so far on my walk to Rivendell
I have traveled 71 miles
I have passed Buckleberry Ferry.
It is 2 miles to the next landmark.
I have 387 miles until I reach Rivendell.
