Thranduil offering help *possible book spoilers* Can't Post

I wonder...in the trailer it seems as if Thranduil is offering help to Thorin and his company, but *book spoilers* this is clearly not the case in the books, and at least partially in the movie (dwarf escape and chas scene). Could it be Thranduil offers his help to the White Council instead?

I reckon his 'help' will be to throw the Dwarves in the dungeon [In reply to] Can't Post

He'll say he's saving them by imprisoning them! :D

Remember those spoilers from the Annual *spoilers* [In reply to] Can't Post

Apparently Thranduil will be offering to release them and help them for a share of Smaug's gold. When Thorin vehemently refuses, he locks them up.

One of the places where the films differ significantly from the book [In reply to] Can't Post

Tolkien gives no indication that the Elvenking recognizes Thorin or has ever seen him before. Movie-Thorin looks much the same during the Quest of Erebor as he did when Smaug took Lonely Mountain.

What seems likely to me is that Thranduil does offer to help the Dwarves, but for a share of the treasure--a price that Thorin refuses to even consider.

That's something where the movie is guaranteed to deliver [In reply to] Can't Post

Top notch acting and ridiculously attractive men.

And I've always preferred Thranduil to Legolas. Tongue

Thranduil and Thorin having a history of their own is a good addition [In reply to] Can't Post

Thranduil refusing to help because he doesn't get a share in gold he has no legal claim to, though... I hope they don't Denethorize him. Perhaps part of the treasure is pillaged from the Elves, after all Thranduil does say he's familiar with dragon fire.

Me too [In reply to] Can't Post

And I believe Lee Pace is a good actor, too.

Yes, ridiculously attractive men (for me Richard Armitage especially), who can actually act.

I actually [In reply to] Can't Post

Like the change they are bringing in by having Thranduil offering to help Thorin so long as he gets his share in the gold. I think it will add more depth to that part in the book. Rather than Thranduil just catching unknown dwarves and throwing them into a dungeon.
BTW I really love how they are portraying Thranduil Lee Pace is a good actor. I just hope they won't make Thranduil into a bad guy.
