Your favorite moment from the new trailer right now. Can't Post

You don't have to pick just one (I won't be! Wink)

  • Thorin saying "I have the only right."
  • Bilbo picking up the Ring, looking at it in horror.
  • Thorin holding back Bilbo in Erebor
  • And, of course, Smaug's voice

Cinematographically, I would say my favorite shot is a tie between the sweeping shot of the dwarves running to the cliff to see Dale, and the shot of the Bridge of Menegroth..er..I mean the Woodland Realm. WinkCool
Who am I kidding, I liked it all.

Do any stand out for you in particular?

"His name, is Bilbo!" - Balin

ties in nicely with the line in the AUJ trailer "My name, is Bilbo Baggins."

In order to answer your question [In reply to] Can't Post

I've had to see the trailer ... again! Wink

Okay here's my pick:

- Bilbo and Gandalf's "courage" conversation - simply wonderful ...
- Beorn bursting out of the woods
- The Orc army marching shot - so "mordorish"!
- Thorin halting Bilbo with the sword
- Bard's defiance towards Thorin especially "He cannot see beyond his own desire!" - the chills!
- Smaug's voice too Laugh

But I agree, the trailer overall was breathtaking Cool

It is so expressive of his relationship w/ Bilbo AND w/ Thorin.

A quick thought on "Bilbo looking at the ring in horror" - speculation [In reply to] Can't Post

Was wondering what would make Bilbo look at his treasure in a repulsed way? This is something he gets very attracted to and has no reason to dislike.

I wonder if something coincides with the Dol Guldur plot?

Example: Gandalf nosing around Dol Guldur, The Necromancer becomes aware of him and attacks. As he attacks the Ring could grow larger and fall off of Bilbo's finger or fall out of Bilbo's pocket or something?

It kinda ties the two storylines together a bit more.

The music playing in the Bilbo ring scene is beautiful. Is that new music by Shore?

I love that they've kept the line [In reply to] Can't Post

"Step into the light [where I can get a look at you]"

Gives me hope that, like Riddles in the Dark, the conversation with Smaug will be very faithful to the dialogue in the book.

That would indeed work quite nicely ... [In reply to] Can't Post

some physical manifestation on the Ring to connect the two together would be interesting to see.

I'm very curious as to what this "manifestation" is ... perhaps a slight/faint glimpse of a rune inscription?Shocked

I think... [In reply to] Can't Post

...you're on to something, but...if the ring just grows I think Bilbo would look very surprised, but not as horrified as he did. I think being near Dol Guldur, the ring slips of his finger (trying to get back to its master) and when Bilbo picks hit up he sees what Gandalf saw in FOTR (the Great Eye). That would explain the horrified, shocked and scared look on his face.

''Do not fear the shadows, for seeing them means light is near...''

I love the trailer! Excellent trailer - shows enough without spoiling. But if I have to pick just one moment:

Black screen. Silence... Is the trailer over?

Well...thief!

Mind blowing. I can't wait to see the actual scene Smile

The whole composition is excellent [In reply to] Can't Post

I like the good combination of both true to form to the hobbit book and slowly introducing more of the elements and tone of the Lord Of The RIngs movies.

Seems like the acting will once again be the best part of the movie. Which isn't a bad thing.

Bilbo [In reply to] Can't Post

..visibly and audibly trembling as he talks to Smaug

Smaug's voice

Bilbo not telling Gandalf about the ring

Shot of Thorin looking very fetching in a nice smart costume

Intense exchange between Bard and Thorin, which other things apart, gives a real sense of the difference in height

Shot looking up into the leaves

Elvenking's halls

Smaug's voice (did I mention that?) Wink

Oh, hang it, all of it - I like all of it!

My favourites: [In reply to] Can't Post

-Bilbo's line "Truly, the tales and songs fall utterly short of your enormity, o Smaug the stupendous!" it sounded almost Shakespearean!

-The way Bilbo almost tells Gandalf about the ring and then says instead 'my courage.' I felt like shouting at the screen "Tell him Bilbo!"

-Smaug's lines, I heard the start of the line and then went one minute is that Smaug's voice?

I wonder whether Bilbo's hazy on the meaning of "enormity"... [In reply to] Can't Post

But the one that has stuck with me is Bilbo giving the longing look to the forest tree tops. That scene is going to be glorious. It will be a breath of fresh air for us all, when Bilbo reaches the top. Evil

And for someone who dislikes Benedict (yeah, shoot me!), Smaug's voice is brilliant.

I really didn't want the Bilbo/Smaug scene to be like a cross between something out of the Roland Emmerich Godzilla and Harry Potter hiding from the Basilisk but it looks like that's what Peter has gone for........
