Why showing Smaug's face and a bit of him talking wouldn't be too much reveal in a trailer.

Why showing Smaug's face and a bit of him talking wouldn't be too much reveal in a trailer. Can't Post

The simple answer, so long as it looks good, it isn't entirely about us, the die hard fans who are coming anyway. It is also about casual audiences, many of whom came to see a dragon the last time around and only caught glimpses of his tail and shadow. Some of them complained about it, including to other potential casual fans. What we saw as a structured introduciton, some of them saw as a cheat, not being already knowledgeable about the structure of the story. Another partial glimpse and sound of Smaug, if it happens (I can take or leave it happily either way), would assure the skeptical that, yes, Smaug will definitely and fully be encountered in this movie, not dangled as a teaser.

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"

"Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

If they showed him in the previous teaser [In reply to] Can't Post

you'd have to think we'll be seeing him again next week. And you know what? I actually hope we do!

But yes, for the casual fans, I think its important they know that Smaug will have a major role in the film this time around.

An element of surprise perhaps? [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree that showing Smaug would be great and I am quite sure that they will show at least a glimpse of him in the next trailer but maybe they want to keep him in secret so that we will enjoy more when the movie comes out. Who knows, I for one wouldn't be any less excitement to see him in Desolation of Smaug if we will hear him talking in upcoming trailer.

Just.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Just wondering, does the Smaug pendant put out by The Noble Collection, look anything like what little we have seen of him? or is it just a general thing like this:

They should have saved him till now, if not the movie itself [In reply to] Can't Post

I really wish they hadn't showed his face in the teaser. They should have shown Bilbo looking up at something huge and we see like a dragon-shaped shadow on the wall, or just Smaug's seeking eye. Why they needed to show his face in an unfinished effects shot just baffles me!!

SMAUG [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm good with what we already got. I would like to hear him though. The body can be saved for the movie still.

I'm certain we shall hear his voice in this new trailer... [In reply to] Can't Post

...although I could be wrong.
It would make sense, though, to show his face - and have his voice speaking (after all, we all know Benedict Cumberbatch is doing his voice. Why should they not give it away?)
Excited for the trailer! Smile

I was watching Star Trek: Into Darkness [In reply to] Can't Post

And the while, Iwas trying to picture Khan as a dragon. His voice did get a bit mumbly and low. Throw in a few rumbles and hisses, I think that he will do well indeed.

I am glad they did it. [In reply to] Can't Post

His voice and full body still leave plenty of "Wow" effects... and it may have cooled down the ridiculously high expectations of some people who wanted something "totally new, yet classic, yet breathtaking, yet THE dragon, yet" etc.

"You think of Gondor only," lol. For me, it is fine as is, however, I speak again of [In reply to] Can't Post

the more casual viewer. Some of them were angry about not seeing Smaug more in the first film. SOme of them do NOT know the basic structure of the story. They may have a wait and see attitude, right up till the third film. There were casual fans who complained about not seeing the dragon, not knowing going in as we did, that there was very little chance of that happening in film one. Those same fans may now be very wary about whether or not they will even get to properly see him in film two. It is something to bear in mind,. For them, another glimpse of his face and the rumble of his voice might be a much needed assurance of his presence at the other side of their 10 dollars or 7pound, as opposed to overexposure.

I agree [In reply to] Can't Post

All they need to do is put a voice over in of Cumberbatch with that lovely deep voice of his! Wink

I simply walked into Mordor.
