We should hear news on the DoS credits song soon Can't Post

Looking back I see news broke of Neil Finn doing the AUJ song on 28th September (though it took another week or so to be reported on here), so I imagine we should hear who will be doing the DoS very soon indeed.

So who do we want then? Continuing the male Antipodean singer theme, I'll go for Nick Cave. I think he'd do a great Smaug's song. I also notice he was at the London premiere of AUJ last year, so perhaps he (or his kids, who accompanied him) is a fan!

I'd prefer the other two songs not be exclusive to a particular character... [In reply to] Can't Post

With LotR, we had Gollum's Song and two others which were more thematic and less "narrative"...we've already had a very dwarf-centric song with AUJ, so therefore IMO DoS could have a song concerning holding onto the light even when surrounded by growing darkness (ALA Thorin's Company, Gandy in Dol Goldur, Lake-town ETC), while TABA could have either an "end of innocence" or "great deeds are coming" type-of approach to it.

But yes, we should start getting word of not only the new song, but a ton of DoS news soon as we're almost in October now.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Yeah, I'm dreaming about Nick Cave too. [In reply to] Can't Post

Would create the most fantastic song. And if it's about Smaug, that's even better.

Yes! [In reply to] Can't Post

Laugh I'm looking forward to it!
Who would I want to sing it? Well, if they are going the same route with Neil Finn, I think Dave Gahan, Peter Murphy, Morten Harket, Simon Le Bon, or Nik Kershaw, they are all from the 80s. If they're not looking for someone around Neil Finn's age, I also think David Bowie or Robert Plant would be some great choices, especially since Bowie released a new album this year, the first in 10 years.

Why no female singers ? [In reply to] Can't Post

Nolwenn Leroy would be a great choice for instance.

Check out her covers of "Women of Ireland", "Moonlight Shadow", and "Scarborough Fair".

Well, he only surrgested one singer [In reply to] Can't Post

but remember, for LOTR we had all women singers doing the credits.

Could be intresting to have an all male singers for credit songs for the hobbit

Agreed, they should stay with male singers for TH - brings a different energy to a different story. // [In reply to] Can't Post

Hmm..... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think that depends on the singer, male or female - although I would agree that the 'dwarvishness' of the story seems better suited to male voices. But they've done a very good job of choosing vocalists so far, so I'm just interested to hear the person they do choose. And the song, of course.

They've established a musical aesthetic for TH, so ideally they'll keep it... [In reply to] Can't Post

IMO having male vocalists greatly allows for TH to maintain something of its own identity, which will highlight the switching of gears between trilogies when the six-part story is completed.
