Minions has been pushed back. and between the 17th and 25th no other films are released

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has 3 other films released the same day

with more released in a few days (But after the weekend)

So there's some stiff competition, if the film does what Disney probably intends for it to do...thought the story synopsis sounds quite silly IMO.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

...a limited release isn't going to make a noticeable difference for a mega-blockbuster, and A Madea Christmas is the definition of counterprogramming. So I think DOS will be fine in its opening weekend.
