Poll: How would you like to travel across Middle-earth?
Horse or pony. - "Give him a pony."
Bunny sled. - "THESE are Rhosgobel rabbits!"
Warg. - "Send out your warg-riders!"
Great eagle. - "The eagles! The eagles are coming!"
Fell beast. - "Wraiths! Wraiths on wings!"
Irish Elk. 'Nuff said.
In a wagon or cart, thank you very much.
I'll just steal a ship from the corsairs of Umbar...
On foot. - "No, that won't be necessary. I'm sure I can keep up."
Oliphaunts. - "No one would believe us."

it just occurred to me [In reply to] Can't Post

I should have gone with the option: ride a pony *with* Thorin. Especially since I don't really know how to ride, and would need lots of training. That's the option for me! Laugh

By TARDIS! [In reply to] Can't Post

Joking aside, I would love to hike all over Middle Earth. I often read The Hobbit in summer, and would get to the Fellowship of the Ring just as the weather was getting cooler and it was September and Frodo was taking hikes around the country to get fit for travel. I would long to be travelling alongside him! And as I drove to work, and the fog from the river settled in on the hills and around my car, I would picture Fog on the Barrow downs, and smile.
But I love the horses of middle earth too, and wouldn't mind a ride on Brego or Shadowfax, if he would allow me to ride on him that is!

That being said, I would *totally* risk a ride in that van, dog and all. Eomer's driving, what can I say... Tongue

Ooh, that's another option. [In reply to] Can't Post

There's so many other good ways of traveling through Middle-earth that I never thought of!

(1) TARDIS (2) Mathom Machine (3) dragon

...what else? I'll never make up my mind with all these options. I'll be going on the adventure of a lifetime!!! Cool

Aww, you didn't have an option that said "other mode of transport" [In reply to] Can't Post

I would have voted Dragon.
I mean, come on! Dragons are so cool - for those who have seen Eragorn and How To Train Your Dragon will know what I mean - they can do all kinds of tricks, diving from cliff tops and tight manoeuvres through trees and buildings... *sighs*
That would be much cooler than flying on an Eagle! What power!
"Thank you for flying Dragon Air! Please come again soon."

How about river transport? There's thousands of rivers there!
Barrel riding! Now there's an idea...
Actually, I'd probably not stand being in a barrel to travel around Middle-Earth.
A boat from Lady Galadriel through the Argonath and yonder would do nicely...

"MorningStar, go back to your Old Toby - you're getting too carried away now!"
"Was that pun intended, precious?" Tongue

Aw, well. [In reply to] Can't Post

I won't argue with the Dwarf who carries a full set of axes. Although, to tell the truth, it seems strangely appropriate... years ago, me and my siblings wondered what would have happened if Gimli had driven a tank to the Pelennor Fields. Merry and Pippin were given the task of operating the gun and lobbing grenades at enemies. We even drew little cartoons of it. Shocked WinkTongue

My, how things go in spirals. Laugh

Other than a dragon a ride on the eagles would be nice or on foot or a ride on Shadowfax.

Oh, and here's another one! [In reply to] Can't Post

I should have really sat down and thought of *all* the possible ways one can travel and applied them to Middle-earth. Silly me, I was only thinking of Middle-earth ways to travel that most people would attempt... I'd be too afraid of being eaten or burned to a crisp to ride Smaug, so I didn't add 'dragon' to the list. But if we could find a tame one, I'm sure we could organize rides, charge admittance... get a nice little tourism industry going in Middle-earth... Wink

Okay, flying carpet. Should I add broomsticks (as in Harry Potter) to the list? Any other suggestions? Laugh Everyone else is so much more clever than me at coming up with these things.

"Commandeer" Eärendil's ship.... [In reply to] Can't Post

...pick up a crew in Umbar, and then raid, pillage, and pilfer my weasely black guts out!!

Arrr!

Now when first Vingilot was set to sail in the seas of heaven, it rose unlooked for, glittering and bright; and the people of Middle-earth beheld it from afar and wondered, and they took it for a sign, and called it Gil-Estel, the Star of High Hope.

Arrrr! I be renaming her Mor-Estel!!

Aragorn & Gandalf introduce Eomer to pipeweed . . .

These staves he spoke, and yet he laughed as he said them. For once more lust of battle was on him; and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king: the lord of a fell people. And he was also high as a kite.

Well, according to Wikipedia [In reply to] Can't Post

... it has actually been suggested that the Norse berserkers did get high (on those red spotty Fly Agaric mushrooms) before going into battle! However it did also say that there was no concrete evidence to back up the theory.
