I forgot about that. Maybe once there is sufficient proof that Sauron is in Mirkwood, Saruman will be all for the attack, but (in the movieverse) right now Saruman is denying the fact that there is an evil presence in Dol Guldur. Perhaps he did the same earlier before AUJ. He could have scouted out the area and decided that there was nothing left to fear, and thus started the rumor that fortress was abandoned.

As far as Saruman wanting the ring, I'm worried that due to Christopher Lee's age that was his only scene in the movies and that this scene was cut. A sort of cameo for Christopher Lee, but now they have to get him out of the way as Gandalf, Galadriel and Radagast do their undercover work. Hopefully this is not the case and the side-plot of him looking for the ring will be included, but I fear the worst with this whole Dol Guldur sub-plot. Unsure

"I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I’m afraid, and he gives me courage.” - Gandalf the Grey.

"Do not be afraid Mithrandir, if ever you should need my help, I will come." - Lady Galadriel.
