AUJ Chapter of the Week (CHOW) Sign-up for September & October!

|
Chapter of the Week (CHOW) is a new discussion on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. For the months of September and October, we need SEVEN VOLUNTEERS. Each host will make one thread each week on their chosen film chapter (ideally within the weekend - anywhere between Friday to Sunday inclusive).
The weeks available are as follows UPDATE The leaders are: 1. Weekend of September 13th - Prologue - Ardamírë 2. Weekend of September 20th - My Dear Frodo - arithmancer 3. Weekend of September 27th - Old Friends - Silwen Peredhil 4. Weekend of October 4th - An Unexpected Party - Queen of Erebor 5. Weekend of October 11th - Dinner Time - Cirashala 6. Weekend of October 18th - Thorin Oakenshield - FaramirAndEowynMorningStar 7. Weekend of October 25th - Bilbo's Choice - Brethil Volunteers choose their chapter on a first-come-first-serve basis, so get in their quickly if you want to host a particular chapter. Just respond to this thread with which chapter you would like to host. We will be asking for more volunteers for the rest of the chapters at the end of October. So if you miss this sign-up, don't worry! There are plenty of chapters left. If in doubt which chapter is which, consult your DVD (hopefully you own it, or PM either cats16 or DanielLB.) Each person will be assigned a DVD chapter, seen above. For your chosen chapter, we will leave the discussion up to you! It really is an open book, so we don't want to restrict anyone. Some suggestions might be: - The use of CGI in the scene (or even HFR, if you can remember what it was like) - The score and the soundtrack - The props, sets and landscapes in the scene - The costumes we see in the film - The actors and acting - General scene setups - Differences from book - A comparison with animated film - A comparison with The Lord of the Rings films You can ask as little or as many questions as you like. Have fun, and enjoy! You can also choose screencaps for your part, and we recommend this website. Magpie has provided an excellent tutorial in image posting on TORn that can be found here. Please also make sure all screencaps stay within TORn's Term of Service (see 2.20). When posting your thread, please include "Chapter of the Day: [Insert Chapter Title Here]", so that they are easy to find on a rather fast moving board. We hope you enjoy all the discussions. (Refer to this post for more details concerning CHOW that may not be addressed in this thread.) Quick add on: Of course, don't volunteer for week 1 if you're a little unsure of the format we're going for here. If you're comfortable go for it!

Yep, all yours. Quite a bold choice, I must say. You'll hear some grumbling behind you as the others see he..er..it has been claimed.

Is there a Tolkien topic that you have wanted to look into more deeply, and write about your thoughts on it? If so, we'd like to hear from you for the next TORn Amateur Symposium- coming in November. Happy writing!

Here are the (rough) end times for each of the chapters. Pressing skip, or viewing the chapters on the DVD will be of more help. 1. Weekend of September 13th - Prologue Ends: 08:51, when we cut to Bag End. 2. Weekend of September 20th - My Dear Frodo Ends: 12:58, when we cut to Young(er) (Freeman's) Bilbo 3. Weekend of September 27th - Old Friends Ends: 16:34, when we cut to nighttime at Bag End 4. Weekend of October 4th - An Unexpected Party Ends: 20:51, after the Dwarves fall through the front door 5. Weekend of October 11th - Dinner Time Ends: 25:11, as there is a knock on the front door 6. Weekend of October 18th - Thorin Oakenshield Ends: 33:14, when Bilbo faints 7. Weekend of October 25th - Bilbo's Choice Ends: 38:26, before Bilbo wakes up the next morning I hope that helps, a bit.

Someone might have to email me to remind me, but dinnertime is honestly one of my favorite scenes in the entire movie I wouldn't mind analyzing it for CHOW.... But like I said, memory ain't what it used to be 5 years ago when I was 21....meaning my two kids stole it all.... So yeah, someone remind me that's my week, and I will gladly post
Race is meaningless. We all bleed red-no matter who or what we are. What matters is the heart. For each race has those with good hearts and those with bad hearts. You have a good heart. You do not deserve to die.

Yep, we can give you a reminder--though before we might be reminding ourselves to remind you. For those keeping score at home, we have 3 weeks still available.

Hopefully the first ten minutes are still available for preview on Directv so I can refresh myself. Otherwise, this is all gonna be based on memory!

Maybe following the screencap site would help out? I think there are fan transcripts with dialogue out there, too. Just some suggestions. Although perhaps your memory is photographic, in which case this post is irrelevant.

since you expressed interest, I thought I would ask. "My Dear Frodo" is the last one for this section. You're more than welcome to wait for future chapters, if this isn't one you're fond of/wanting to do.
