Houghton Mifflin 50th VS Harper Collins Deluxe Can't Post

Greetings! I'd like to buy myself a nicer edition of Lord of the Rings and i decided that i will either buy the Houghton Mifflin 50th anniversary edition, or the 2004 Harper Collins Deluxe Edition, but i'm not sure which one.

Let's get going: I'm a sucker for gilded edges, but i'm not sure what else the HM version got going for itself, the black material (not sure if it's leather) looks rather tacky, and since it looks suede wear becomes a question, but this is also a concern with the HC version - because white. :)
HC released similar looking editions for other works of Tolkien, which i like a lot, as i maybe would consider buying those in the future. Other than that i'm pretty clueless, i have no idea if not either has more illustrations than the other, or how the print quality is, but i'm curious about these things. Does anyone know if one of those is printed on hemp paper or are both just wood pulp?
