The Great Hall of Poetry? Can't Post

I am unfamiliar with the Fan Art board so perhaps things are done differently there. But I'm curious what about this thread necessitated an announcement and why members need to submit their work rather than just post it directly to the thread? It comes off sounding rather like a contest but nothing of that nature is mentioned. And while I'm asking a slew of questions .... ;-)

Are we allowed to submit more than one poem and are we obligated to include a mini-bio as the inaugural poet did?

Thank you for your answers!

Kel will be by when the sun swings up over her part of the world to explain more... [In reply to] Can't Post

...but this is an endeavor driven from the site (TheOneRing.net) in general and is larger than the message boards. In my mind, it will kind of revive the old Moon Letters section of Green Books.

http://greenbooks.theonering.net/moonletters/

When someone posts on the Fan Art board, it is read only by people who visit the Fan Art board.

The Great Hall of Poets is being posted on the Home Page:
http://www.theonering.net/...great-hall-of-poets/

and will reach a larger audience. As with all home page articles, there is the option to post on the message boards at the same time the article is posted to the home page. That's why you see it on the Fan Art board.

Hope that helps some. And Kel will answer the rest of your questions, I'm sure.

to be clear about something I said [In reply to] Can't Post

I said:

I don't mean to imply that new poems will be published there. Green Books, in the incarnation I linked to, is archived and inactive.

I meant to say that it seems to revive the 'intent' of Moon Letters: showcasing fan artwork on a site-wide basis.

Morning The Grey Elf [In reply to] Can't Post

Yep as Magpie explained, 'The Great Hall of Poets' is a new feature we're running on the frontpage for fans to join in with. Mainly in response to requests from people to showcase some of their work, who aren't very comfortable with joining a message board. This way everyone can have a go.

You don't have to submit a bio, they're mainly aimed at anyone who has their own blog, in case anyone out in the internets wants to know more about them and their work. As it was the first time we'd posted we asked the poet if she minded adding one.

And yep, you can submit as many poems as you like.

Hope that's of some help :-)

Only new work? [In reply to] Can't Post

G'Day, Kel (sorry, I couldn't help myself Wink),

A few weeks ago, I posted some verse on a thread created by Roheryn on the Hobbit board. A number of these I gave a further spit and polish. May I submit previously posted work in addition to new things? And how is it decided whose poetry is showcased in the Great Hall and when? If I am selected, will it be for just one poem?

Thank you for your patience with my many questions!

Smile

No, you can send old work too [In reply to] Can't Post

LOL G'Day ;-D

As the frontpage is separate from the boards that doesn't really matter. There are a lot of people who never come in here.

How is it decided? Basically myself and Mithril go through the submissions and pick out a poem we think would work on the frontpage and that would appeal to Tolkien fans. So our only real criteria is that the work is kept within our family friendly boundaries and that it relates to Middle-earth.

Not necessarily, as I said before you can submit as many poems as you like. Just because one of your poems has been showcased before doesn't mean others wouldn't be.

No problem dear, ask as many as you need Smile

Many thanks!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not going to suggest the word "avalanche," but you and Mithril can expect a few more submissions from me Wink.

Soon.

On behalf of myself and all the other rookie and more seasoned poets inspired by Tolkien, thank you so so much for this opportunity!
