Adapting the Tale of Gondolin to Film Can't Post

Due to the recent rumor of a Gondolin scene in TH: DOS (likely just a rumor due to rights, though they could certainly make further mention of it) as well as the announcement of the new fan film Storm Over Gondolin (which I am super stoked about!), I thought I would start a discussion about adapting the Gondolin story.

How would it translate as a film - even this upcoming fan film? Do the visuals used in Jackson's films work for the First Age of Middle Earth story? Which elements of the story would work well on screen or what would need to be tweaked? Thoughts, folks? How would an adaptation of the Gondolin tale work?

Note also that I am including any and all material related to Gondolin from the legendarium - references from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, HoME, Unfinished Tales and The Silmarillion.
