Gandalf vs Belgarath Can't Post

Who wins, the Maia spirit Olorin in the form of Gandalf the Grey, or the seven-thousand year-old disciple of Aldur, Belgarath?

I'd say this one would be fairly close. While Gandalf's power is usually subtle in nature, he can do some pretty dramatic things if he wants to. Sorcery as used by Belgarath depends on the willpower of the caster, and the things one can do with it seem to be practically limitless, whilst magic in Middle-earth terms is never fully explained.

I would lean towards Gandalf here, since despite his age and skill Belgarath is only a man, whilst Gandalf is essentially an angelic being. It would be a very interesting contest.

Yeah, but [In reply to] Can't Post

Gandalf is an angelic-ish being who doesn't have access to all of his powers in Middle-earth. If the fight is in ME, Balgarath wins; if it's in Valinor then Gandalf gets some mighty smiting in.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Belgarath [In reply to] Can't Post

If it is Belgarath before the end of the Mallorean, the he would win as the Necessity would not let him die.
However after the Mallorean they(Belgarath etc) believe that now their task is none, they will slowly lose their powers and so Gandalf would win.
Although if it was all five of the Istari vs The Brotherhood of Sorcerers, then The Sorcerers would win. Imagine Beldin, Belgarath, Belkira, Beltira, Belmakor and Belsamber all using the will and the word to become Balrogs Smile

I believe even Torak One-Eye would hesitate [In reply to] Can't Post

before taking on six Balrogs! (Seven, if you include Belgarion.)

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

That would be epic [In reply to] Can't Post

Obviously if you include Belgarion, Polgara, Durnik and Pre-traitorous Zedar then it becomes serious overkill. Wink
