Who should sing the Desolation of Smaug credits-song ?! Can't Post

I really liked Neil Finn's song and now i'm hoping for an female singer, maybe a unknown one from New Zealand again.

I hope the song itself will sound threatening and kinda mysterious...

Your ideas-wishes-hopes ?!

Good question [In reply to] Can't Post

The only thing I'd like to see (hear) is a female singer.

No idea, but then... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it depends what the song is about and what sort of song it is. If it's a Smaug song then a man's voice would probably suit it better than a woman's; same for something dwarf-related or something anticipating the battle to come. But something mysterious, or a lament of some kind, perhaps a woman's voice.

Smaug's Song [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it would be a neat idea to give voice to a dark/evil character as Gollum's Song did in the middle chapter of LotR. Hoping the themes go like this: AUJ - Dwarves, DoS - Smaug, TaBA - Bilbo

If it's Smaug's Song.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Then Nick Cave would be a very interesting choice. Obviously he'd have to refrain from going too dark, but the results could be spectacular.

They won't go back to female singers... [In reply to] Can't Post

They've established that TH will go with male vocalists for the credits (reflecting the more "masculine" energy of the largely Dwarvish cast, and perhaps inspired by the songs from the animated Rankin/Bass TH).

My choices:

1. Paul McCartney (makes sense as PJ is a massive Beatles fan)
2. Peter Gabriel
3. Sting

Though it will probably be a comparatively obscure New Zealand singer if Neil Finn indicates a trend.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Finn did such a wonderful job with his song. It is to be hoped that the next will be as good. Perhaps they will go with an eastern-sounding song as Dale had a Moroccan look to it.

Crowded House have had major success in Europe and the US. I'm sure most people would be familiar with their songs, even if they didn't know Finn by name. Don't see how he can be described as 'semi-obscure'

Um, no and no. [In reply to] Can't Post

They don't know Finn by name (your quote) = obscure. Having vague familiarity with some long-ago songs doesn't count. And I know several people who hadn't heard of him until AUJ.

And btw, the OP also called Finn "unknown".

But let's just argue for the sake of arguing, shall we?
