The birth of WETA Can't Post

If you have not already seen it, this excerpt (about 4 minutes) from a 1994 TV programme is worth a look.
Peter Jackson talks about special effects and shows off the technology of the time, and he also makes a prediction about where he thinks film is heading.
Richard Taylor looks about 14.

Reel-to-reel film! [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh, gosh, does that take me back...does anyone even use that kind of editing setup anymore?

Yeah, Richard Taylor does look like a teenager - geeking around in a garage! Laugh

Which is, of course, the way a lot of geniuses got their start. Cool

Silicon Graphics [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank-you so much for sharing this. I could listen to PJ prognosticate about the future of film for hours.

It was a blast from the past seeing those Silicon Graphics computers. I worked with folks who were developing molecular modeling during the same time period and they had those same machines. Heart

And the knitting folk here should give us an appraisal of Richard's sweater! Love him and his über-geekness.

One person doing computer graphics. [In reply to] Can't Post

One.

Weta's grown a bit since then, haven't they?

And yes, Richard looks like his own younger brother!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

I try not to watch videos online if I don't absolutely have to. And this month in particular, I need all my data allowance for fun in the fiber arts community. =)

Ya know, it could've been worse... it could have been an '80s sweater! =)
It's okay, Richard, I still have a crush on you!

I think we now know where the inspiration for Ori's nerdrobe of knitwear came from. ;)
