So, you are only allowed to read or re-read ONE more Tolkien book before you die. Which is it? Can't Post

I would find this one very hard, being the sort who reads the books annually. I love the whimsical nature of The Hobbit, the epic scale of The Lord of the Rings and the majesty of The Silmarillion. If I had to choose one.....Oh, it would have to be one final read of LotR! Wink

LOTR [In reply to] Can't Post

It would have to be LOTR simply because it has a little bit of everything - allusions to The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, and The Children of Hurin. Plus, it's the longest, so I'd get to enjoy more of the world before retiring it forever.

The Sil...it was a hard choice. [In reply to] Can't Post

But I've read LotR many more times, and have a lot more of it "in my head" than I do the Sil.

Oh dear....*dithers* [In reply to] Can't Post

This makes me so indecisive that I'll be dead before I get the chance to choose.
I'd have to choose The Hobbit, because it's the first Tolkien book I read. It means a lot to me.
Go out the way you got in. Smile

The Silmarillion <3 [In reply to] Can't Post

I want to wake up in the morning in a Silmarillion bed, to brush my teeth with Silmapaste, to eat Silm porridge, to dress in Silmclothes and work at a Silmarillion study center. Walk in Silmarillion rain and swim in Silmarillion river and take Silmarillion sun baths. Then when I go to sleep I want to see Silmarillion dreams, and when I die I want to sit on the same cloud as Tolkien and pester him with Silmarillion questions.

I'd read The Lord of the Rings, so it was fresh in my mind [In reply to] Can't Post

Then, if I bump in to Tolkien in the after-life, I can pester him with questions, such as:

- Do Balrogs have wings?
- Who really is Tom Bombadil?
- Why were the eagles so useless?
- What colour was Legolas' hair?
- What happened to the Blue Wizards?

And so on.

The Hobbit, easily... [In reply to] Can't Post

It's my favorite book, both for Tolkien and overall. What would be a more difficult choice for me is being allowed to read only one more book before I die in general, because despite The Hobbit being my favorite I feel something like Peter Pan would hit the spot. Smile
