Elves armors, and what they represent. Can't Post

I am not sure where to post this thread, as I will be talking about both trilogies, so I´ll post it here.

This are just my interpretations of them.

I believe that the colors and designs of the LOTR armors tell us things about not just their culture, but their history, too. I will be focusing on the elves in this thread.

As much as I want to, I can´t talk much about the designs because I simply lack the necessary level of english, but I´ll say that Jackson clearly wanted them to be basically dehumanized, avoiding to make them bear any kind of resemblance to the known cultures of our world. You can clearly see this, especially in the designs of the helmets and the shields. They are devoid of any humanity.

So lets take a look into the colors:

Rivendell (Eregion) : Gold and blue, then silver and blue.

Lothlórien: Gold and red, a bit of blue too.

The elves of Rivendell of the Second Age are clad in beautiful armors of gold and blue. The blue symbolizes their love of the sea. The sea is almost worshiped by the elves, it is very important for them and that shows in their buildings and in their warfare, too. Blue is their last home.

The gold represents their vitality, the beauty of living, the splendors of an ancient age, an age of wonders and magnificence. In short, it represents the elves´ morning and shining glory. The sun.

In the Third Age, night has come to Rivendell. The great days are over, The elves are now watchful, they stay in silence, not allowing themselves to be looked upon or even heard, like the night itself. Silver is the color of the moonlight. But they still wear blue, a dark blue, to remind them of their true home.

Lothlórien is the sunset of the elves. The elves living here are not yet deep down in the dark like Rivendell, they are willing to fight for Middle Earth, but their time will soon be over. The red is the color of the sunset, red and gold are the colors of a leaf in autumn. Their time is passing away, it has already passed. They will soon go to Valinor. Notice how their cloaks are blue.

Finally, we have the Mirkwood elves. The dark green symbolizes corruption, forest in decay. Actually, they a have a bit of everything. I don´t yet know what their final armors will be, but they have gold ( seen in the trailer), black (Thranduil), and red. Perhaps this means that, as Mirkwood elves are the first elves we see in the Middle Earth saga, they are kind of in the middle. Not too in the dark, not too in the light.

And that is all for now.

Hope you enjoyed! Smile
