Thranduil [In reply to] Can't Post

is awesome, probably the best thing in the trailer. Not sure I like Tauriel, though. I was expecting a more amazing Smaug. The scene with Bilbo sliding down the treasure put a smile upon my face.

Never ask an Elf for advice, for he will say both 'Yes' and 'No'.

Initial impressions.. Awesome! Love it. Colour grading a little jarring as is some of the CGI. Not sold on Tauriel but WOW.

Amazing but... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I gotta say I could have traded all the Tauriel bits to even a small glimpse of Galadriel at Dol Guldur.

The beginning was Thranduil's vo was my favourite, as well as Balin in the end.

I LOVE how this opens up! [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the glimpse of the dragon and the various arguments between characters. I think they did a fantastic job of bringing in a more serious, epic, dramatic, and dark tone in.

The only criticism I have ... and I may sound like a broken record ... but I have to toot this horn ...
If you are going to rely on CGI for a lot (and I love how the increased use of CGI allows the presentation of elves as more than human with pointy ears by the way) - then it is so critical to make every CGI frame a top priority - I guess it is probably like making the bed or doing the dishes - one of those neverending jobs that a person can sink infinite amounts of time into - but - gotta do it.

I also really enjoyed the dialogue - this is something that required tons of creative and insightful work because it is not there in the book (with a few exceptions).

Indeed...... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Dragon's head we see in this trailer doesn't look the one we saw in the AUJ. The eyes and the shape of the snout are completely different. Would love someone to do capture a side by side comparison of the two because I don't think they are the same.

Encouraging trailer [In reply to] Can't Post

Obviously the CGI, particularly on Smaug, needs a lot of work, but they have 5 months, so plenty of time.

I like how the first part of the trailer [In reply to] Can't Post

has a LOTR feeling to it.

I didn't expected to see the dragon. That was a surprise.

Thranduil's halls, just wow.
I have a bit of mixed feeling about Smaug.
I need to watch it again.

Is it me or the image seems even more clearer then the AUJ?

I feel like a broken record BUTT [In reply to] Can't Post

This CGI is nowhere near finished. They had to turn this in a few weeks ago. They still have another FIVE months of time to finesse these shots and believe me knowing WETA they'll take it to the last second to make it look perfect.

Some of my observations: [In reply to] Can't Post

- Snow (and ice) throughout Erebor, Dale and Laketown. Chilly!
- The Hidden Door appears to be behind one of the big Dwarf Statues (which I said it would be!)
- Thorin also nearly drops the key off the edge.
- No lids on the barrels ...
- Why are there slugs on Thranduil's brow?
- All the Elves (Chasing the barrels) seem to have similar hair to Tauriel
- Is that just a bear, or Beorn!bear?
- What is that Elf pointing out to Legolas? Probably leaving Thranduil's Halls?
- Thorin opens the Hidden Door at night/sunset (phew)
- Also seems to be something above the door, inside the tunnel - a carving maybe?
- Bilbo is in the water ... but not invisible
- CGI of the chamber seems a bit off, but Smaug looks good
- Is that the same Smaug from AUJ? We need a comparison.

I enjoyed it overall. Too much CGI though. General public will be left baffled - doesn't really get across any of the story, does it?

Thranduil and his halls are wonderful! [In reply to] Can't Post

I really look forward to seeing more of Thranduil. Loved the glimpses of Thorin and the other Dwarves, and Bilbo. The barrels scene looks amazing.

I'm sorry, haters, but the glimpse of Azog is really good, too – he looks amazingly athletic!

Smaug: I think we have to wait and see how he is developed. One can't really say much following the small glimpse we have of him – clever of PJ and Co not to reveal much!

What is that dog-like creature at a door?

Thank you so much for posting the link.

I miss Galadriel too, but maybe Dol Guldur fight will be in part 3.

Seems like its gonna be a lot better than part 1 .... a lot better!

The split to 3 movies robbed some of the umph from part 1 IMHO

Smaug [In reply to] Can't Post

Just want to point out that if you stop the trailer near the end and look at the far side of Smaugs face, you will see it's very different, and you can see his scales and all.
The point is that the side of his face that is facing towards Bilbo, and us, is affected by the light, and therefore it is probably not this way he will appear for the most time in the movie!
Just my thoughtsSmile
