I know that Rory Kinnear is favourite but would anyone else love to see RA as Doctor Who??!! Or is he too well known now as Thorin or his role on Robin Hood? What's his schedule for 2014?

Was reading Screen Rant last night and saw a list of the possible doctors. Both Martin Freeman and Ken Stott are on it. RA would make an interesting doctor. He is not as quirky as the last two. More in the Pertwee/Eccleston line of swashbuckling doctors.

I don't think it suits his strengths in acting

I think he does *present* very well. By present, I mean really emotionally and mentally tuned into what it happening and who he's with with maybe just a touch of broodiness thrown in. I don't think that what the Doctor Who franchise strives to do (although I admit, I'm not sure exactly what they're striving for in this rebooted series. I watch it and I mostly enjoy it but I'm not sure what they are striving for). For me, having him as a Doctor wouldn't give me what I want from the Doctor and it wouldn't give me what I want from Armitage.

I'd prefer a not-very-well-known actor

so that the new Doctor doesn't carry any acting baggage with him.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I guess I'm just more for the "not-always serious" Doctor, and I don't know if I could see RA as not always serious. Just my opinion, of course.

Which I hated, by the way. But the Doctor just doesn't seem to be the sort of role that RA is suited for. I'm not sure why.

He's a great actor but too high profile, and too 'serious' for the role IMO.

I don't mean serious in a bad way, I just can't picture him as the type of actor who'd get a kick out of the material, and I ca't see him signing on for another franchise. I'd really rather see someone less famous but older in the role-Douglas Henshall for instance, that said Stott, Armitage and Freeman all have history with the BBC so it's possible... I'm still surprised Stephen Fry was never linked with the role-you can't get more British than him...
‘As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and we was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said ‘All is now ready.’ Perhaps the most fascinating Individual in Middle Earth

Stephen Fry would be brilliant but sadly the trend with the modern Doctor Who seems to be to look for young actors for the role. Stephen would be too old to fit the standards.
