So he could get away with the boobies and sex. The show is decent but I'd take The Hobbit movie everyday of the week and twice on Sunday's. Martin is a sadist at best IMO. The show has taken away any interest I had in reading the books. For me personally could walk away from GoT and not feel I'm missing something where as The Hobbiy and The Lord of the Rings are things I have to hold off not watching. IMO GOT easily markets itself to the lowest common denominator each and every week. HBO/Martin could only hope to put out something as quality as The Hobbit IMO. IMO Tolkien > Jackson > Martin

Band of brothers was far superior to the hobbit.
And Iluvatar spoke to Ulmo, and said: 'Seest thou not how here in this little realm in the Deeps of Time Melkor hath made war upon thy province? He hath bethought him of bitter cold immoderate, and yet hath not destroyed the beauty of thy fountains, nor of my clear pools. Behold the snow, and the cunning work of frost! Melkor hath devised heats and fire without restraint, and hath not dried up thy desire nor utterly quelled the music of the sea. Behold rather the height and glory of the clouds, and the everchanging mists; and listen to the fall of rain upon the Earth! And in these clouds thou art drawn nearer to Manwe, thy friend, whom thou lovest.

I love it and it has one moment that grossed me out and made cry, but I'd personally still take The Hobbit over it.

But television was simply the best format for Game of Thrones, and HBO allows the creators to tackle the adult content (sex, language, violence, and other social taboos). Not to mention the fact that the ten-episode seasons allow them more time to flesh out the innumerable characters and storylines. Certain cuts and changes have to be made, of course, but HBO was a FAR better arrangement than a two-hour film would have been, and is certainly more faithful to the source material than any Hollywood adaptation would have been. By a mile and a half. Of course, if the story isn't your cup of tea, that's an entirely different topic altogether. Heck, I agree with what Ian McKellen said months ago. Part of me thinks that even The Hobbit would have been better served as a television miniseries - given it's episodic structure.

I don't like the idea of an arrangedmarriage between Legolas and Tauriel. I don't want a romance between them at all. It is a serious breach of continiuity.

That's a whole another story though. If they want romance in the Hobbit, and the only canon lady if Galadriel who's already taken... ... though I swear the slightly romantic undertones of those Gandalf/Galadriel scenes cannot have been completely unintended. At least they must have known how it seems like to many people.

Going by what people who have read the books have this I'd say is true. I just think HBO allows them to get borderline trashy with things and if the books are like that then it's another reason to take a pass.

After such an extraordinary couple they are giving us something out of a bad fanfic. Legolas/OC (aka original character) is fanfiction. Thranduil/OC is a fanfiction. Kili/OC is a fanfiction. I`ve never read a single good Legolas/OC fic. That Tauriel is a ruthless killer who you wouldn`t want to meet in a dark alley because she`s driven by love!? is LOL. That`s how the character sound based on Lilly`s two back-to-back interviews of late. Totally schizophrenic. Ruthless killer out of love? ROFL.

GoT fans, don't read, because strong dislike and hate even are being described here: "Look you stupid piece of an audience, here's boobies and urine at your face! This is what we believe will entertain you, because we think you're a shallow loser! GIVE US YOUR MONEY" If I want to watch porn, I'll watch porn, not a tv series trying to sell itself with it. Less annoying dialogue scenes interrupting. And all the characters felt like collections of clichés, and not in the good way. Just hollow marionettes with tropes plastered on them to make them look interesting. Perhaps that opinion would have changed by time... but that time never came, 'cause I got tired of jumping over the annoying sex scenes.

I can see what Martin means. As much as I love the film adaptations of the Trilogy, I wonder what it would be like if the BBC did season adaptations of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. I love the BBCs Sherlock, and I've been rather impressed with other BBC shows.

However, I'm laying down my judgement only when I see the film. Majority of the whole romance could be really invisible. Like she could have this silent, loyal devotion to Thranduil, but she never speaks about it. Simply serves her king, and perhaps once in a while gives a longing look at him. You'd need to be very persistent to hate that, when you could just ignore it.

But even i a young guy am getting to the point of 'really? Another sex scene already!' I am not against seeing some naked flesh and some of the people are very easy on the eye but there seems to be more each season and as the story is so fragmented anyway the sex scenes begin to just slow everything down. Still the last episode was awesome with some great acting - deserves some awards for it. If that makes me lowest common denominator then first time for everything

I'd much rather her be a female archer than using swords and kicking butt that way. I'm sure we'll get that, too, but I find the archery much more believable. Plus, it should help differentiate her from Eowyn who is the real warrior woman of these stories.
