Good. Now I don't need to post my patchy, scribbled notes, [In reply to] Can't Post

and my photos were pretty bad, too, so watch this and enjoy. I was hoping at least the fabulous rendition of the Happy Birthday song would be posted (at 30:00). It was the highlight and something they must have obviously been performing for many birthdays these past many months. The harmonies are terrific. At 37.45 there's one little bit of Misty Mountains Cold, too. I guess I shouldn't be surprised the whole event made it to Youtube. Yeah!

They were very relaxed and in good comedic form, sharing the microphones and all making contributions. It was a lovely experience, though not always easy to hear the questions. I was only back about 10 rows. It pays to arrive an hour early and sit with a book and a flat white. Wink

If, after watching, you have questions about a question that wasn't clear, I'll try to remember what was said. Enjoy.

Is that a confirmation that Saruman will play a role in the battle at Dol Guldur? I think its important that Saruman be there since he was supposed to be the key to their victory, but I am afraid since he is so old he won't get in on the action.
From this quote and McCoy's body language it seems as if Saruman will be there but not in the thick of it. I think someone else suggested he may be nearby perhaps manipulating the weather and/or using some other powerful spells. There is also speculation about whether he will use his famous gunpowder/explosive devices (as we see in TTT).

I hope they include him because otherwise Gandalf's line to Frodo in LOTR about Saruman being both wise and powerful will be baseless. So far in the chronological scheme of things he seems neither of those.

Awww...that was nice. They really were all quite nice and personable. There are some great fan pictures from the Con with them. I couldn't help but notice the young fellas at the end did NOT hold up their microphone for the song though. :D It's only Happy Birthday guys it doesn't need to be perfectly, even if none of you can sing very well(they are kind of adorable in that interview where the reporter asks them about singing Misty Mountains and they all basically agree "Oh they turned the sound down on us")

Saruman at DG [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah I noticed that part too. Seems like good confirmation Saruman will be at the battle. I can see him doing the whole spell from afar thing. Mccoy also confirmed that Gandalf gets carried away by "someone".... but we already know who it is Mad

Is it just me, or does the link state that it's a private video? Has it been posted else where?

I did a quick search on youtube and the video is still available [In reply to] Can't Post

But probably the link to the video has changed.
If you go on YouTube and search "armageddon expo" and then you make a sort after the "upload date" you will see a video of 53 minutes with the Hobbit panel. The video is still public. Sorry for not being able to post it but I am on my mobile.

Saruman manipulating the weather [In reply to] Can't Post

Please make it happenHeart

I'd love to see some serious wizard action at the battle of Dol Guldur. I'm hoping we'll get to see Radagast do some special magic things aswell (i loved his incantation during the hedgehog scene).

Not gunpowder - [In reply to] Can't Post

- he developed that later, to everyone's surprise in LOTR - his use of it shows that he's become naughty - which we shouldn't have a clue about in The Hobbit.

One could argue... [In reply to] Can't Post

that Gandalf should get the credit for "inventing" gunpowder or at least giving Saruman the idea with his fireworks. I like the idea that here is yet another instance where Saruman becomes jealous of Gandalf and perverts it for evil. Contrast the mood that Gandalf created at Bilbo's party with the terror of the wall being breached at Helm's Deep.

True [In reply to] Can't Post

I was referring to its use as an industrial weapon - taking it from a harmless craft to something mechanised and destructive - which is a bit of a theme in the books, with respect to Saruman.
