I'm not really sure why, other than the obvious.... they were very expensive, labor intensive, and difficult to make sure tickets covered costs and still low enough for the average fan to afford. They were held in Pasadena, California over (at least) a 3-day weekend and were SO GREAT! Here's a link to my old report from the 2006 ORC. **warning** I tend to have very long reports, but you can get an idea of what they were like. http://archives.theonering.net/...3DD0171000ED71A.html I have to add, I worked a 2nd job just to save up and do these conventions. ;) Now it's going to paying off bills so I can retire... so my days of conventions are, alas, over. *sniffle* But WHAT A RIDE I'VE HAD!!
