Question regarding Azog/Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire Can't Post

Richard Armitage has said many times recently that he had no idea who he was fighting during the climax of AUJ. However, when Azog approaches he clearly says "Azog". So he must have known that he was fighting Azog...confused...???

Don't make the assumption it was filmed in a linear order... [In reply to] Can't Post

Films aren't done like that. There can be months of separation between shots that are right next to each other, even in simple dialogue sequences. And there are often alternative retakes with different lines thrown in and such. So it becomes very hard to follow what pieces are going where.

Thorin's "Azog" line could have been a response to anything. And could have been reused in a new context. He says "Azog the defiler" to the Goblin King too, it doesn't mean anything. It could also have been a pick-up, or an alternate shot. Movies are very confusing things to follow when you're making them, and I can only assume PJ's movies are probably the most confusing, because of the scale and how much he likes to change his mind.

He probably didn't want to give much away either. [In reply to] Can't Post

None of us new the cliff-hanger to AUJ, though some had speculated/guessed. We certainly didn't know it would involve Azog either. He may have been told to keep quiet?

Visually [In reply to] Can't Post

I think he knew he was fighting a character named Azog, but he have any idea what Azog actually looked like. I think the V-log about the premiere covers the bit about Azog's form/look not being done until the very last edit.

Correction [In reply to] Can't Post

He DIDN'T have any idea what Azog looked like. (Timed out on edit...)

Imagine if someone said, "take this sword and go fight Blingdo...just imagine he's over there," you wouldn't know who he really was (size, type, scariness, etc.). RA probably just had a tennis ball for eye line. Makes me re-appreciate the actors' talents in this project!
