Love them in stews! I like using the red potatoes, and keep the skins on.

My favorite potato salad recipe is another one of those where you just add things in. I start with a bunch of the red potatoes, and after cooking and cutting into bite-size chunks, I add some chopped onion, then let it marinate for a couple of hours in a salad dressing: years ago I used Kraft Miracle French dressing, but have not been able to find that, so I've switched to Old Cape Cod Honey French.

Then add lots of chopped sweet peppers of all colors, celery if there's some around, eggs, and a bit of salt, pepper, dill, and celery seed. If I have some sweet red pepper relish, I'll add a dollop or two of that as well.

Just keep adding, mixing, and tasting until it seems "right". Or until if you "taste" any more, there won't be enough for the rest of the family! Laugh

Recipe(s)! I will share ...and it's really one recipe with a little variation.
version 1:
Taters and cabbages :)
Rinse, peel, and cut into cubes--enough potatoes to feed your crew. Add those to a big enough pan of boiling water.
Add bite-sized pieces of your choice of meat (bratwurst adds lots of yummy flavor! but sausage or beef will do, too).
Once the meat and potatoes are within a few minutes of *done*, add torn leaves of cabbage. I leave these of a fairly good size (palm sized or so) and simply lay them across the top --rather than stir into--the other two ingredients. This allows the cabbage to be more steamed than boiled. Not much else needed--maybe some pepper and salt, and/or a little butter if you desire.
Serve as a stew/soup with bread..to soak up the liquid.

Option 2:
Same as above but add Italian cut green beans rather than cabbage and *do* stir into the meat and potatoes. This one I do drain the liquid from after it's ready. And I usually use sausage rather than bratwurst.

I love potatoes chopped up into chunky chips.
I love spicy potato wedges, served up with dips.
I love potato slices which have been fried in a pan:

With butter and milk to make a real light, fluffy mash.
Jacket potatoes, I find a bit dry, but with a nice filling
Such as chilli, to give them a try, I am more willing.

With breakfast, I love hash browns or potato cakes,
And I love potatoes mixed up with leeks in a bake.
Crispy, golden potatoes, served up with Sunday roast

Mixed in soups and casseroles, I love potatoes diced.
On top on minced beef hotpot, I love potatoes sliced.

Is also rather nice, and, for me, it is another safe bet.

I love potatoes cut into crisps: the slices, wafer thin,
And, as a starter, I simply love loaded potato skins:
I do adore a delicious dish of Bombay potato curry:
For me, it is a taste which I won't forget in a hurry.

I like potatoes diced up with creamy mayonnaise,
Served up with salad on really hot summer days.
But I don't like potatoes which have been boiled:
From potatoes, cooked this way, in horror, I recoil.

Sunday Roast with roast potatoes [In reply to] Can't Post

Roasts when done well are perfect, though i love potatoes in any form other than boiled, ugh!

Best forms - Roast with gravy, Jacket with butter, salt and pepper, Scalloped in sauce, Mashed with sausage and onion gravy, Chips (that's thick fries for American's) then Crisps (that's Chips for American's).

Never ate them raw, always been told they can make you ill, though i imagine that's if you eat loads of them. Still never been even slightly inclined to try them that way!

As for meat - i like mine rare please with extra blood, haha and a side of black pudding - cooked pigs blood and oats, lol.

Mmm that does sound nice. Come to think of it, my favourite way to eat perogies (the main ingredient being mashed potatoes) is with fried kielbasa and mushroom sauce (basically diluted mushroom soup).

Now about raw potatoes... being from the belladonna/nightshade family, I suppose there might be some worry there. I've heard when potatoes are green (raw or cooked) they are toxic. However, there are some plants whose roots have one effect and whose leaves, stems, flowers and berries have another (catnip comes immediately to mind). I'm pretty sure the foliage of potatoes are toxic, similar to tomato foliage.

I don't tend to eat food that's gone a little green anyway. Wink Except the ones that are supposed to be green. I've definitely heard that it won't harm you if you eat raw potato occasionally. It's not like I eat them raw for every meal. I much prefer my potato in chip form, with lots of kethcup!

My dad loves mashed potatoes so we used to have them every day, and now I'm kind of sick of mashed potatoes. However my mom does make the best twice baked potatoes I've ever had. I also love french fries. Smile

Twice baked you say? Kili (just above you) recommends that style as well. To be honest I've never heard of twice baked... is it anything like deviled eggs, but with potatoes?

in any shape or form. Love 'em!

A quick lunch: with a fork, poke holes in a sweet potato, then microwave on high for several minutes. Cut open and serve with butter. Yum!

60 + years of eating those on a pretty frequent basis (especially when the kids were young) has tired me out of the fries. On the other hand, I'm constantly finding new ways to stuff baked potatoes!

The utlimate potato dish, if you ask me!

I also like hash browns, roasted "oven fried" potatoes, deep fried potatoes, and latkes.

Roasted, baked, and mashed can be good if enough flavorful and fatty toppings are added, but I find just plain potatoes a bit bland.

Pretty good description. You bake them, halve them, scoop out most of the baked potato flesh, mash it up with suitable additions (bacon and cheese, butter and chives, or whatever you like), refill the hollowed out potato skins, and bake again to get them a nice golden brown around the edges. They have crispier skins than regular baked.
