Any news on who might be playing him? He's my favourite character from the Hobbit. Ever since childhood days. Big, cuddly, a guy you could feel safe with - and all that honey!

his role being cut a la Tom Bombadil. I'd hate to see his role cut--just lose the animals serving dinner. For example, the party could just walk into a room and the meal was on the table already. Not sure who I'd want to play him, though.
For Gondor!

On the contrary, I think Beorn is essential. His presence at the Battle of the 5 Armies is one of the things that could make it a cinematic battle to rival anything in Jackson's LOTR. And you can't just have him show up at Erebor. Maybe they modify it a little. Maybe Gandalf leads the company to Beorn's lodge and find him already gone. Maybe he play a role in the seige at Dol Guldur (if those story trails are followed in the films.) I'm curious, given the 2 film set-up, if they will mention Bilbo's yuletide visit with Beorn on the return trip to Bag End.

one of the most frequent criticisms leveled at RotK was by folks who couldn't take extended endings. Of course WE FANS know there should have been even more of them.

But not in the style that RotK presented them.

If they don't have Beorn in it, I might not go and see it. He's the best thing in The Hobbit.

but I do believe he has too much importance to leave out. Who knows what Mr. Raimi will decide to do.
