And I shall be your barmistress today, as our esteemed Altaira had to be called away by her work duties! What a week this has been - with horrible natural disasters, wild weather, factories exploding, and Boston under "lockdown" as the Marathon bomber is sought. Lots of love and thanks and prayers to the first responders and rescuers! So come on in, I've got plenty of drinks here and fruit smoothies, let us know how you've been faring this week!

Of course, each of us has a different sort of tranquilizer. Me, I'm thinking a nice hot-fudge sundae would help. There was a bit in our newspaper this morning about a Texas man who missed the explosions in Boston by a couple of minutes and was unscathed, then was driving home past West just as the factory exploded. His friends accused him of being unlucky but he says the opposite, he feels very lucky to have escaped both events. We have friends who go to West for their Czech festival---they say you've never danced until you've danced a nuclear polka! We have personally driven by there dozens and dozens of times, and have stopped to buy kolaches and other Czech snacks/pastries. We also have friends and relatives who are runners and who knew people who were in Boston and, well.... Big hugs all around, 'sibs, and may we have a peaceful and recuperative weekend. Thanks for filling in, dernwyn. *stuffs tip jar with the wise words of our good Professor: The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For ... the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach.*

My car thermometer is reading 68 degrees today...and the tulips are all opening. My DH just left for work, after following Boston PD on the police scanner. NYPD is on alert for the identified car. I just hope it ends soon and as well as it can and my thoughts go to everyone on Boston, but of course particularly for those working the scenes. Icewater and treadmill is my lot this week

I know you didn't request a drink, but it really has been one of those weeks when we could all use one! I've had a hard time talking about the Boston bombings; being born and raised in Massachusetts, that event is almost "sacred", and this hit too close to home. But the true spirit of people came out in their response, and generosity, and caring! You have a restful weekend too, gramma. Did you get any of the snow from this latest storm?

I read about that Texas guy - that is freaky! Thank you for the words of Tolkien's wisdom, Lily. He had faced so much grief himself, and knew how to express Hope - and Faith.

Can't think how long it's been since I've made it to Fiesta Friday! But, I can't leave the house just now - I'm in Boston - so I thought I'd take the opportunity to hang with TORnsibs! I know bubbly is my usual drink of choice, but today I have a bit of a headache, AND I'm trying to stick to my diet, so I'll just have a cup of tea for now. Skim milk, no sugar, please! It's been an odd sort of week here in Boston. I'm just so grateful that everyone I know has come through the week unscathed - so far - and my heart goes out to all those affected - both here and in that terrible explosion in Texas. Things like this remind us how precious life is, and makes me appreciate my friends and loved ones even more. So, here's to you, 'sibs! I like more than half of you, but probably only half so well as you deserve....

And help yourself to the bag of choice - got some Green Tea, and Orange Pekoe, and Constant Comment, and Earl Grey, and a nice Rooibos, among others! This has been a week unlike any that Boston has seen before, and I hope will never see again. You're so right, this does make us appreciate and be so glad for those we love! Stay safe, and may it all be over soon.

It had had a "rattle" for quite some time - I just put it down to age whenever I drove it, it is a 13 year old car after all. I'm just thankful for the recovery vehicle coming so quickly. I might not have been in lockdown, but I was on a very busy and dangerous road. Not a situation I want to repeat, personally. I think we're receiving the tail end of a couple of storms here in the UK. Winds reached ~50mph the other night. We live in a newly developed area, and they're building new houses behind our garden at the moment. By the morning, everything had been blown over, and there were so many broken bricks, slabs and tiles. Despite all the snow this winter, we've not really had much rain. Our garden has definitely benefited from a couple of downpours. We have no outside faucet/tap to water the lawn, so for a while, the grass really was greener on the other side (of the road). Do you have any nice plans for the weekend dernwyn, or is it all weather dependent?

Just rain, with clearing in the morning, so once it dries off I've got to do some more trimming of our bushes. This past winter's storms caused more breakage than I had expected, so it's been taking me a while to clip off the damage and try to "trim" the rest to look nice. LOL, the old saying came true!

''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted." — J.R.R. Besides the time spent monitoring news feeds, I'm in the snow zone (see my thread on off topic). The snow last night was stunningly beautiful and I took photos this morning. My husband needs to repair his car and took the day off to work on it. Of course, before he can.. he has to clear the parking pad of snow so he can pull the Corvair out of the garage and move the VW into it. And then work in the cold garage which does have a heater that takes the chill off. And added to that, an update Windows forced on my computer last week totally messed up my video driver and my monitor was completely off. I did a system restore and tried the update again but it messed it up again. Hours spent reading threads on the internet, I presumed that Windows had just totally screwed this up and that I didn't really need the update so I did another system restore and then found out that Photoshop detected 'a change' and wants me to reactivate the software. And I can't find my discs/package which will have my key on it so I'm without photoshop till I can find it. And I have search my computer room 4 times... my bedroom (which has my husband's software in it) 2 times... and even dug around the front porch. Me without photoshop = not a good thing. Fortunately, it did not affect Illustrator or InDesign, my other crucial Adobe products. So I can continue to work on some projects but I have to postpone aspects of it till I get the Photoshop issue sorted out. And... I let my son take my car to work today since his is an old hooptie and the snow was bad this morning. I knew I didn't want to leave the house but I forgot, till after he left, that I have almost nothing for dinner. So, it will be interesting digging around the fridge pulling out dribs and drabs of leftovers. so it goes. :-)
