war in the north has horrible story line! Can't Post

The game is a tolkien based one but the storyline to me was just plain horrible!
none of the events in it are mentioned in the lore of tolkien, and the whole plotline was stupid. stop Agandaur with the help of a dragon!
if the title is war in the north, i thought it couldve been based on the battle of dale, in which dain, and brand die under erebor, from an easterling attack, which actually happened as written in the apendices and unfinished tales. if the story had a build up to that battle it would have been much better off for me. anyway what are yoour thoughts?

I have become convinced of this. [In reply to] Can't Post

Even if a connection or inspiration to Tolkien's works exist somewhere in the creator/author/designer's mind, if the work significantly departs from or expands beyond what was actually written, it is better not to associate it with Tolkien's stuff. This game could have worked as its own game with its own invented characters and storyline if they aren't actually using Tolkien's stuff. They could have avoided a lot of trouble that way, a lot more bitter criticism, and probably done just as well since the public now seems to have a generally healthy appetite for the fantasy genre now.

I enjoyed it... [In reply to] Can't Post

And i've read all the histories of Middle-Earth and all the appendices, and agree there's a wealth of material there to explore.

But that still didn't stop me enjoying the game and it did feel like it COULD be a part of the world. Even though it isn't.

I didn't think it terrible... [In reply to] Can't Post

...although the game ending with the dragon just taking Carn Dm, and the heroes politely asking him to be nice, felt a little off. Heck, what was the point of even including the dragon? It didn't make much sense to me, having the threat of a dragon joining the enemy almost immediately undone, followed by leaving said dragon out of the picture until a point of the game when you had already won.

I definitely agree with your second point. That they went for a "Angmar rises again"-storyline (which LOTRO had already done at that point, by the way, making it feel a little like "been there, done that"), instead of building a storyline around the actual War in the North, I thought a missed opportunity.
