Saruman spies on Helm's Deep.
1.) Any thoughts on the balance in this shot? How does the light and dark clash? What emotions does it invoke in you? 2.) Does Helm's Deep really come across as a stronghold here in contrast with the surroundings? (note the size/location of mountains, the crows, etc.) 3.) Any other thoughts or comments?
Stigmata Script, a bastion for aspiring writers - http://stigmatascript.com/ "You do not let your eyes see nor your ears hear, and that which is outside your daily life is not of account to you. Ah, it is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all; and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain."

1. Balance seems fine to me. I think the shot gives a lot of feeling that something bad is coming and its going to cost lots of lives. Also, NZ is just really beautiful. 2. I think it does. The way its designed it funnels people in there by cutting down how big their actual numbers are. If it wasn't for the gun poweder that Saruman used they wouldn't have broke in and took the keep.

I really love how there's these beautiful, snow-covered mountains that seem so natural and serene, but they are contrasting the dark, menacing sky/clouds above it. Kind of makes me think that good prevails no matter how strong evil tries to overcome it, which of course is synonymous with the story lines/characters of LotR.

Saruman spies on Helm's Deep. 1.) Any thoughts on the balance in this shot? How does the light and dark clash? What emotions does it invoke in you? The starkness. Its almost monochrome. It has a chilly feel to it, especially with the snow-capped mountains in the background and the shadowed stonework in he foreground. 2.) Does Helm's Deep really come across as a stronghold here in contrast with the surroundings? (note the size/location of mountains, the crows, etc.) Well it should, surrounded by higher peaks - but in this shot, because you don't see the sweep of the wall, I think it feels exposed, and open, especially with the crebain above. 3.) Any other thoughts or comments? The soldiers on the wall from the back all look so much like the carved statue of Helm. The crebain seem more alive than the men. (A stronghold or a tomb?) Not sure I would want to be there! Hell hath no fury like a Dragon who is missing a cup.

Any thoughts on the balance in this shot? How does the light and dark clash? What emotions does it invoke in you? We get an outward view from inside the 'Helm' as the sun moves further towards the west. This would probably be a 3.00pm view when the shadows are beginning to lengthen and form in the hills beyond. The people in the foreground look calm enough but the lighting and the flock of crows in flight does invoke a sense of edginess. Does Helm's Deep really come across as a stronghold here in contrast with the surroundings? (note the size/location of mountains, the crows, etc.) It does. The presense of a few soldiers on the battlements make this obvious.
