I'm really enjoying Downton Abbey [In reply to] Can't Post

Started watching it a little while ago and I'm using it as my incentive to work out. (I'm only letting myself watch it while running on the elliptical...the addictive nature of the show is really helping my workout routine.)

I'm most of the way through Season 2. I just love Maggie Smith in this. (Actually, I love her in everything.)

My elfling's LOTR commentary: (from when she was 4)

On Arwen: That princess is sad because she wants her Daddy.
On Eowyn: That princess is sad because she wants to ride horses with all the boys. They should let her play too.
On Legolas: What is that princess' name?

Vikings [In reply to] Can't Post

They've managed an old Pagan flavour without resorting to straight up soft porn like GoT did.

Excatly! [In reply to] Can't Post

Was my thought when watching it as well. Probably why I love it, as LOST is one of my all time favorite shows.

Maggie [In reply to] Can't Post

is a treasure. I remember loving "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" ages ago, and I just saw "Quartet" and loved it.

But I think the Dowager Duchess is her best character ever.

The way we imagine our lives is the way we are going to go on living our lives.

Goodfellas [In reply to] Can't Post

Watched it for the first time. And now I can't believe what I have been missing all this time. I never wanted to see it particularly because I never thought it was something worth watching. Boy was I wrong. It's an absolute masterpiece. I haven't found a single scene in it that feels even slightly boring or tiresome. Every scene is completely engaging. Anyone who hasn't seen it is seriously missing out on an amazing storyline and some of the best acting ever. Hands down, one of the best movies of all time by one of the greatest directors of all time. Martin Scorsese, you're a legend!

Love that one [In reply to] Can't Post

I, too, wish I had see it earlier than I did. Maybe I was worried it would be a cheap Godfather knock off, but I ended up loving it!

And you can't forget that incredible steadi-cam shot as they enter the nightclub from the v.i.p. entrance. That shot still continues to amaze me today. Such awesome movement through the narrow hallways and then the kitchen.

Yeah, it seems everyone is amazed by that shot [In reply to] Can't Post

But that shot isn't that fancy and complicated, you have to admit.

I think that's what makes it great [In reply to] Can't Post

It's simplicity really allows you to focus on what we're seeing, thematically, from the sequence. There are so many things that this sequence says about the main characters, etc. That's what I really like about it. Scorsese is really bringing us into the story.

Downton Abbey [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm really enjoying it as well! I just watched the first two episodes of season 2 yesterday. While I enjoyed them, I feel as though it's just different enough from season 1 to hinder my enjoyment just a bit. Something about it just seems off to me. Maggie Smith, though, is as awesome as last season!

I'm glad it's helping motivate you to work out!

"...not till now have I understood the tale of your people and their fall. As wicked fools I scorned them, but I pity them at last. For if this is indeed, as the Eldar say, the gift of the One to Men, it is bitter to receive." -Arwen
