Blu-ray - Smoothing (poor man's HDR) Can't Post

My TV (Samsung UA40D6600) has smoothing options: blur reduction and judder reduction.

When I crank those options up to max, the movement is very fluid, similar to what we saw in the HDR theater. The smoothing is especially noticeable during panning of scenery or when the map moves across the screen like it did in LotR. It definitely helps reduce the stutter/strobe effect. 3D is already somewhat strobe-like, so it's nice having that additional smoothing.

The downside of smoothing is the occasional "smearing" artefacts, or when parts of a slightly moving image don't change while other parts do.

So there's a trade-off with smoothing.

I'm curious what settings you guys use for the Hobbit (and/or LotR).

Do you smooth the 3D version, but leave the 2D version normal? Do you smooth both? Neither?
