A real-life archer faster than Legolas? Can't Post

Legolas in vlog #8 courtesy of DarkJackal We all know that Legolas Greenleaf is pretty speedy with that Lothlorien bow of his. But that's in Movieland. Surely it's impossible to replicate in real life.

Danish archer Lars Andersen believes he's rediscovered ancient techniques that allow him to shoot as fast -- or faster than -- Legolas does in the movie of The Lord of the Rings.

The trick? He holds not just the one arrow in his hand, but every single arrow he intends to shoot -- so each arrow is ready to be fired immediately. There's a good view of it at around 3 min 15 secs in the video below, and some interesting and insightful discussion of the technique in this old post over on Reddit.

Russian archer SeregedelReal is pretty fast on the draw too!

this is +amazing+ [In reply to] Can't Post

and timely, as i'm taking up archery again (used to do it as a child).

reading source text from long ago is so tricky. translations, embellishment by others, and/or tall tale-telling by the original observer can make so much of what transpired so long ago suspect.

it's fascinating and thrilling to see what the human body and mind can accomplish.

wonderful share. thanks so much.

cheers --

aka. fili orc-enshield
the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield."

this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel
