"Born of Hope" rocks! Can't Post

Wow!! What an effort, Kate Madison, the director and producer and yes, actor, just rocks, I just watched this for the second time and yes, was brought to tears at the end.....ALL the actors, crew, etc. are great, I just posted on their website, who thinks to do this and get that many people on board, to do a movie about Aragorn's parents???? This crew should tackle Turin!! Or any number of untold stories....I think I watched snippets of this in the past, but because of TORn's posting I watching the whole thing and was blown away...

Indeed [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, it's a really good fan film. Very professional and well done. I love how she and her crew were able to expand upon the info in the Appendices and create a very compelling story. The actors are all pretty good, the pronunciations are spot on, and even the computer-animated troll doesn't look half bad.

The one (very minor) flaw is when an orc uses the name "Sauron." Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't his minions forbidden from calling him that?

Hunt For Gollum is the best, IMO [In reply to] Can't Post

I vaguely recall watching Born of Hope a year or two ago. I might have to rewatch it again. Although I think the best effort at a Tolkien fan film is Hunt For Gollum. It has great acting, makeup, locations, effects.

Will rewatch Hunt [In reply to] Can't Post

I watched that too awhile back...I emailed the director of Born and she thanked me for my thoughts, her next project is not Tolkien related but I bet it will be good...she has a professional group together and it shows...

Fantastic! [In reply to] Can't Post

I just watched it a couple days ago and was impressed. I could tell much passion and effort went into making that movie. Smile

Yes it's a great film [In reply to] Can't Post

As is The Hunt For Gollum, which is (arguably) better in many ways. Wink

I finally got around to watching 'Born of Hope' in its entirety [In reply to] Can't Post

I have to admit that this had impressive production values for a fan-film. It was also well-acted. The only real problem is the lack of a major pay-off; the story, at the end of the day, is just a preface for future events. I can't help thinking that it could be easily cut down to the bare-bones as a simpler prelude to the story of Aragorn's youth.

"completely boring" ? No magic? Did we watch the same film? I would challenge you to state exactly why you found it boring, and name specific scenes that you found "boring" .....name those scenes....

easy bruv [In reply to] Can't Post

i felt like id gone on a school trip to a reenactment of an iron age settlement, too much talking , which wouldnt be a problem but the dialogue felt stilted and the acting wooden.

most of the scenes set in the encampment, which was nearly all of it.

Lol...they used a camp built for reenactments... [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, so you felt the writing and acting was bad...But lots of scenes were in the forest and the make up and costumes and weaponry were cool...I thought the actors were great and the director should make another fan flick...just differing opinions!

The pay off... [In reply to] Can't Post

I hear you but I felt that the pay off IS the event of Aragorn's birth! That the line of Kings is unbroken!

That still makes for a fairly slight film.

Yes, Aragorn's birth would have been a significant event in the history of M-e... [In reply to] Can't Post

The birth of Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is only the beginning of his story. I would expect a little more from a studio, tent-pole film. As a fan-film, this works fine.
