only readily available online in those 'buy American sweets in the UK' websites. Thanks so much for the recipe though. Smile If I ever spot canned pumpkin, I shall know what to do. According to the Nigella website (do you have Nigella Lawson in the US? Can't stand that woman for some reason), she has a quick way of making pumpkin puree with fresh pumpkin, but it seems like an awful lot of hard work to me... Laugh

I have also never had pecan pie, and I have a recipe for that one, so perhaps that would be an easier place to start.

What I can't figure out is what kind of battleaxe i need to cut the darn things open...

...just toss them out of an upstairs window onto something hard! Wink

I've used a heavy kitchen knife and hammer to open some of these. Seriously - get the blade of the knife in place, then pound it through with the hammer!

Apple pie is the only kind I bake, which I do in the Fall when apples are in season locally. Good with ice cream or just a cup of black coffee. I don't add sugar at all, apple pie does not need it!

When eating out, any kind of berry pie and pecan pie. I like all of those with whipped cream.

And I like all kinds of savory pie with meats and veggies...yum! An excuse to eat pie for dinner. Laugh

Pumpkin, pecan, chess, and all those with meringue or whipped cream toppings, including the one I described. We will pretty much classify everything in a pastry crust as a "pie", including most quiches.

Apple pie la mode. A big slice of apple pie, a little on the tart side, room temperature, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream on the side. Probably my all time favorite dessert. Although any fruit pie is almost as good.

Second favorite dessert? Banana split, all vanilla ice cream, with strawberrys, chocolate sauce, and pinapple (in that order).

I'm hungry...

is the heavenly balance of the sweet and the tart.

My mom made a homemade apple pie with Granny Smith's green apples and it had a wonderful tartness to it and when combined with good vanilla ice cream.... nothing else exists in the world.

My wife and i developed another version of that pie by using just real maple syrup for the sweetener. It is so good, it should be illegal:)

Let's see, I'll say my number one favorite pie is cherry, then apple, pumpkin and finally blueberry. So many wonderful choices! At Thanksgiving, I try to get at least one slice of each of my favorite flavors!Smile
