Thorin's Oath, a song parody Can't Post

THORIN’S OATH

Traveling to a land called the Shire
On a Hobbit’s trail, head full of tired.
I’d met a strange wizard, he’d made me nervous,
We’d met at Bree, talked over breakfast,
Where he said,

“Do you come from a realm down under,
Where ore veins flowed ‘til Smaug plundered?
Where the hammers of smiths once thundered?
You’re on the run, you’ll have to recover.”

Buying time, staying at Blue Mountains,
Swore revenge with an oath resoundin’.
I cried, “We will never once forget!”
So I gathered every Dwarf I could get,
And some said,

“Do you come from a realm down under,
Where ore veins flowed ‘til Smaug plundered?
Where the hammers of smiths once thundered?
You’re on the run, we’ll help to recover.”

Sittin’ at a booth down in Bree,
Wizard sat tall across from me,
I said to the bloke, “Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from a realm of plenty?”
And he said, “Oh,

Do you come from a realm down under,
Where ore veins flowed ‘til Smaug plundered?
Where the hammers of smiths once thundered?
You’re on the run, you’ll have to recover.”

Comin’ back to a realm down under
Where ore veins flowed, ‘til Smaug plundered,
Where the hammers of smiths once thundered,
Were on the run, but soon we’ll recover!

Comin’ back to a realm down under
Where ore veins flowed, ‘til Smaug plundered,
Where the hammers of smiths once thundered,
Were on the run, but soon we’ll recover!

I'm still waiting for an announcement that you'll be at one of the TORn premier parties with your parodies. I envisage it as a video with text so the Tornfolk can sing along. Come on, R_T!

Thanks Liss Smile. A video with subs for sing-a-long might be doable...with some expert help. Actually I really do want to record something like that at some point. Which parody do you think would be good to put on video?

A bassoon perhaps? [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually I could easily picture a Dwarf performing the flute part, and well. Are you familiar with Jethro Tull by any chance? The lead singer, Ian Anderson, has always reminded me of a Dwarf (he's got the beard for one thing. Also I understand they draw some inspiration from Tolkien). That guy is one amazing flute virtuoso.

Thanks Arandiel! Smile Too bad no one added to our beginning of You're a Troll, Brother William , I had high hopes for that one.

True, true [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm slightly familiar with Jethro Tull. And actually, James Galway sports a beard, though not quite of dwarvish proportions. I just get a fit of the giggles picturing someone like Dwalin wielding a flute.

Hmmm... I wonder if You're a Troll just got buried on page two. Would it be worth a re-post? Or maybe something like The Balrog and the Uruk-Hai (Walrus and the Carpenter)? Or Boromir and Faramir (Tweedledum and Tweedledee)? Or The Balrog and the Wizard Gray (Lion and the Unicorn)? Not that I'm familiar with Lewis Carroll's work or anything... Cool

You're a Troll, Brother William, a collaborative Lewis Carroll parody (repost) [In reply to] Can't Post

OK here's where we left it, our parody of You Are Old, Father William,

Starting with your part, then my part in bold:

'You're a troll, brother William,' the young dwarf said
'And quite long advanced is the night;
And yet you are searching for nice sandwich bread -
Do you think that it's wise in this light?'

"In a stew," muttered Bill, while Tom and Bert looked,
"We hope Dwarf will ease hunger pains;
And once we know perfectly how it is cooked,
Why, we'll eat 'em again and again!"

Who's next? Step right up....!Smile

Continuing on with The Balrog and the Wizard Gray [In reply to] Can't Post

elaen32's started stanza 11:

"The time has come", the Balrog said,
"to talk of many things

which I shall complete:

"And why my skin is boiling hot -
And whether I have wings."

I just couldn't resist...

And a pioneer of popular parody. So, thanks for the compliment my good Sempai!

And even besides the Yankovic comparison, I'm quite sure in my own right I've got weird in spades. Laugh

Sorry I didn't get a chance to see your original post before it ... went missing or whatever happened. Could it have been a glitch? It didn't even reach my email, as reply posts usually do, even the deleted ones. Unsure
