I got it from using... [In reply to] Can't Post

the Fin___fin. I mean, what else could it be? Cool I figured you knew what the second image was getting at, so at least it made sense to someone.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).

A niggle: [In reply to] Can't Post

The picture is of the meat that goes into a donair not a donair itself. Incidentally similar meat-on-a-spit is sliced into a pita to make Greek gyro and Lebanese shawarma. All delicious imho, depending on the sauce and perkiness of the tomatoes.Wink

I love gyros. That's not to say you can't find badly done gyros at malls and stuff. But you can find any type of food badly done at malls and fast food places.

Some interesting place-names here. [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Bellscrabblewhatthef***isthat. This may sound like an obscure place-name, and it is: so obscure, in fact, that no one but me has ever heard of it.

2. Carrock

3. Oakenshield. But really, you got this one wrong: it's supposed to be like this:

4. Wormtongue

5. Melkor

6. Fingolfin

7. Hornburg

8. Fanmonster. This is what some of us (*coughcough*) are called by some of the actors.

9. Goldberry.

10. I get "Men'sroomoperatingsystem", but I'm pretty sure that's not been heard of in Middle-earth. You're not just getting us to think out of the box here, it's more like thinking outside the warehouse where the boxes are stored, right?

Thinking out of the box, that's inside another box, which is in a cupboard, with at least 7 locks, and the warehouse is the size of Switzerland. Wink

Fun! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for this, it 's a great idea for a puzzle/Tolkiien trivia. Smile

My attempts:

1. Pelargir, or Bellatrix.
2. Carrock
3. Oakenshield
4. Wormtongue
5. Melkor
6. Fingolfin
7. Hornberg
8. Fanalien
9. Goldberry
10. Mandos

Re: 1), the second item is either suggesting Gyros (Bell A Gyros?) or it is something very tricksy, my precious (Bellatrix).

Re: 8) Surely Fanalien is the name of a more obscue Silmarillion elf related to all the F's?

The answers :-) [In reply to] Can't Post

These were guessed far too easily, even the more obscure ones! Well done to everyone, and thanks for playing (and carrying on playing those that haven't yet). Smile

The answers:

1. Belladonna (the last picture, in the UK, is what you get a doner kebab from. I was unaware it had a different name in the US, so sorry for the confusion. The answer is definitely not Bellagyro!
2. Carrock
3. Oakenshield
4. Wormtongue
5. Melkor
6. Fingolfin (Not Finghostfin. Another name for a ghost is a ghoul.)
7. Hornberg
8. Fangorn (Not enough Star Trek geeks here!)
9. Goldberry
10. Mandos

Smile

I have an Elf special coming up, so watch out for that!

LOL // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville
